I'm using IE7, recently re-installed after reformating my PC. I've never had problems with it before but IE7 has suddenly started crashing.

The thing is, it only seems to crash on P&B and is getting more frequent every time I visit the site. After re-installing, it worked fine but (I'm sure this is just a coincidence) since P&B TV started up IE7 has been crashing. I can barely get through 2 threads without it happening now. I visit plenty of other sites and this is the only one I'm having problems with.

Before downgrading then reinstalling I was wondering if you guys could come up with a better answer (other than "Get Firefox/Opera" etc).

Would have to agree, got fed up with Ie crashing and basically pissing me about so started using FireFox and after sorting out a few minor teathing problems have never looked back.

This is a tough one. IE, with the way it integrates into the OS, can crash for a multitude of reasons, some of them seem completely unconnected with the browser itself. You say that the P&BTV seems to be a problem, is it on that page specifically or throughout the site (ie: does it crash when viewing E-Chat?).

There is another option if you wish to keep with IE but can't get IE7 sorted and that is to try the beta version of IE8. Although it's still in beta, it's stable and is fully featured. In fact I used it for a month or two for testing and it seemed fine.

Of course, I would recommend using Firefox, and once you do (and especially if you mix it with a few extensions) you'll wonder why you ever bothered with IE in the first place.

Mozilla seems to crash quite frequently for me. I agree that it is a better browser though; plus you can import all your IE bookmarks etc on install smile.gif

Save opening a new thread. I'm still on Firefox 2 but whenever I visit The Sun's website my firefox closes down. Any idea's on what it is? Or how to sort it?

I don't blame it for shutting down when viewing the Sun website, it's saving you trust me wink.gif

Ah but has a decent wrestling section with an actual journalist unlike many others at the paper. Infact he actually reports on things without bias thus meaning they won't print it in the actual paper. ohmy.gif

I don't actually watch P&BTV but I mentioned the timing as I thought there may have been changes made to the forum coding.

IE has never caused any problems for me until this and I'm too lazy to go un-installing it just to put it back on the PC. tongue.gif IE8 could be the answer but it doesn't offer anything extra that I really see the point in risking running a BETA version for.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, diagnosing why IE crashes is painful to say the least, it could be anything and without actually being at the computer when it does then there is little I can do to help you with it. It could be something completely unconnected to the browser that has caused it.

One other reason people should switch to FF, Opera, etc.

The Beta version isn't risky. It's still basically IE7 but with some additions. Personally it's a pile of sh*te, but then it's a better pile of sh*te than IE7 was.

Just d/l FF and be done with it. Install Adblock (and a filter), Download Statusbar and IETab as extensions and you'll wonder why the IE icon even exists on your computer.

I've just had to put FF2 onto my work PC to test the new website. IETab will let me test in in IE at the same time .. very handy biggrin.gif
