Funnily enough Preston and Crichton played in last years competition, and if memory serves me right Crichton went 2 goals up but lost in the end 4-2.
What the heck is "The Challenge Cup" ? Is this a new East/South tournament or is it actually the second qualifying round of the "Scottish Cup"

It is a South/East cup as well as some other teams, it replaced the old South Qualifying cup. But there are more teams in this.
some good ties there, could be a cpl of suprises aswell. what teams do you fancy to go thru???

In the 1950s, Qualifying Cups were abandoned for an all-in Scottish Cup. 2 new cups were made in the old Qualifying Cup areas: the North Supplementary Cup, and the South Supplementary Cup.
Those were only for the clubs which entered the old Qualifying Cups - i.e. for SFA members only.
This time round, instead of resurrecting the old Supplementary Cups, the SFA instead proposed larger cups involving all senior clubs in Scotland, plus SFA clubs which were playing in amateur or junior leagues (and had been in the old Qualifying Cups). In the North, that meant no practical difference - as all the clubs in the HFL are also in the SFA. However, in the South it has allowed a host of new clubs - 8 from the SOSFL and 12 from the EOSFL - to experience cup football on a level beyond their individual league/association. An opportunity they were previously denied.
TBF the name could have been chosen better. 'Challenge Cup' does not particularly stand-out and the name sometimes causes confusion with the SFL Challenge Cup, or SCFA South Challenge Cup.
The SFA sponsor each cup at £20,000 each for its first 2 years. But the SFA do not operate them.

Crichton will give Preston a hard game and it could go either way - home advantage could be crucial though. Fleet Star will struggle against Whitehill IMO. Good luck to both teams.

I think the reason Girvan withdrew last season was because they had a league game which they thought would be more important in the run in to the end of the league season. Cant see the same happening this year with the competition now be played earlier.

Hard to see why Saints would pull out - I mean if they did, they would probably be given a league tie against Heston instead!! As someone has mentioned above, there were issues last season with Girvan (senior / junior fixture clashes), but St Cuthberts are in the same boat as other SOS clubs.

Well, I went along to this game on Saturday and was really disappointed with Crichton. Scoreline flattered them big time! After hearing last year's result v Preston and hearing they had started as they left last season, as top of the south league, I thought they were really poor.
Some of the players are a joke, smoking before the game pitch side, really heavy, slow looking defenders. Preston should have won by closer to 6/7 given the chances missed.
I hope it's not a reflection on the standard of the south league overall...

Apologies. Not all of the defence were overweight, water treaders.....just 2 out of 3.
Preston had more than a few chances lets be honest. Might have been slightly different if your one off the line in the first half had gone it but I severely doubt it.
I had expected more from Crichton.

Keep in mind also that crichton are still without a few players due to injuries last/and over the close season. But even without these players they still sitting at top of league and playing well. Everyone is allowed off days at times...

Was at the Whitehill v Fleet Star game and it was men against boys,Whitehill missing 4 or 5 first team players but still breezed through this game. It should easily have been double figures but for umpteen one on one chances being missed by Whitehill strikers, and some good saves from Fleets keeper. Fleet's goals even came from 2 mistakes by Whitehill although the lad took the first goal superbly. The good thing from Fleets point of view was that they never gave up

Reading between the lines to be fair Fleet were missing a good number of players aswel for this game! Saying it should easily of been double figures is a bit hasty keepers are there to make saves and I heard Fleet put a lot of effort into the game. You've got to remember Whitehill are east premier champions so I think Fleet done not too bad. When I heard Fleet were away to Whitehill I thot they would get destroyed! I also heard the 2nd goal was a very good move from the fleet boys and a good finish I wasn't there just what i'v been told by a Fleet man.
