If they ever finished in a position to qualify (they may have already, I don't know) would Russian Premier League teams such as Tom Tomsk or Luch-Energia Vladivostok be able to play in UEFA competitions? They are situated close to Mongolia and North Korea respectively.

If not, is there a ''cut-off point'' on the map where Russia starts to be considered Asia?

Russia is a UEFA member country, so they would be allowed to play.

It would be interesting to see a team from Iceland play Vladivostok in a qualifier, you would surely be looking at a fourteen hour flight.

Also for kick-off times Luch-Energia Vladivostok must be at least 6 hours in front of us would that mean if the game kicked-off at 8pm in Vladivostok than the time over here woulde be 2am?

One of my mates worked out Tenerife v Vladivostok would be the longest possible European trip but Iceland could be further come to think of it. Regarding being part of Asia I seem to recall Blackburn playing a Turkish team afew years ago who were well into the Asian part of Turkey, getting towards Iraq.

Vladivostok is actually 10 hours ahead of GMT so an 8pm local time kick-off would mean 10am GMT.

As for the Asian thing there is only a tiny bit of Turkey is in Europe and none at all of Israel. But as Andyboy says because Turkey and Israel are members of UEFA their clubs qualify.

No it would be 2pm here.

But the time difference is actually 10 hours, so if a game kicked off in Vladivostok at 8pm, it would be 10am here.

Actually, L'Etoile de Morne-a-l'Eau from Guadeloupe have played in the French Cup on a number of occasions.

If they won it and qualified for Europe, I think their trip to Vladivostok would be further than Tenerife's.

laugh.gif, crazy shit. The plane would be as well going the other way: up past the USA and Alaska.

This is still European competition we are talking about, right?

Forgot about that, absolutely mental. On a similar note Santa Clara from the Azores Islands played an Armenian side in the intertoto a few years ago.

On FM I got Vladivostok into the Champions League group stage and drew Porto in the Group. That is a long trip!

Incidentaly you could (in theory) have a UEFA Champions league group containing 4 teams from for continents.

Concidering Iceland is split geographically between Europe and North America, Íþróttabandalag Akraness effectivly play on the North American continent. Or Actually, L'Etoile de Morne-a-l'Eau from Guadeloupe.

Numerous geographically Asian counries, eg, Armenia, Israel or Russia have numerous football teams eligible to qualify for european competition.

The spanish teams Ceuta and Melilla, both play in spanish lower leagues, are based in continental Africa.

If you added a European team you would have 4 teams on 4 continents in a UEFA Champions League group, the possibility of this happening is indeed extremely unlikely.

Taking the curvature of the Earth into consideration, any flight from Iceland to Vladivostok would just go over the Arctic Ocean / North Pole so it wouldn't be that far. Without taking far flung islands into consideration, any team from the Algarve would have the longest trip on mainland Europe to get there.

It is my mission to go to a Luch-Energia Vladivostok game after many sucessful spells as their manager on FM.

Do any teams from French Guyana participate in the French Cup?

When the UEFA cup group stages are reduced to 4 teams it'll be theoretically possible for there to be a group of 4 teams from 4 different continents and none of the teams being from Europe. The Asian, African and North American ones you mentioned plus a team from French Guyana could qualify for the UEFA cup via the French cup. French Guyana (and Martinique, Reunion and Guadeloupe I believe) has a separate league system within the French league system and can't gain promotion to the Ligue 1 so could never qualify for the Champions League but it could happen in the UEFA cup.

I'm sure Cardiff played a team from Tashkent, back in the days when Uzbekistan was still part of the USSR.

EDIT - I just looked it up, and they were playing Torpedo Moscow, the tie was moved to Tashkent because of the weather in Moscow.
