I've been having problems with my broadband connection at night. The connection would die but reconnect itself again within a minute. This would happen about 5-10 times a night and only happen between 10pm and 4am. This was until last night when my broadband disconnected about 10pm and didnt reconnect all night.

I phoned talktalk today and they told me that this was a relatively common problem due to broadband being unstable when it is dark. He then lowered my internet speed and said that would fix the problem.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? And does anyone know if broadband really become less stable at nighttime or is the talktalk guy talking ****?

It's true, broadband does indeed become less stable at night. It's because AM radio signals can interfere with the telephone cables.

Can you remember being able to pick up Police Radio at the end of the FM band at night? Well, it's the same prinicpal (except on AM).

Are you downloading anything, and if so have you passed your d/l limit for the month?

It could be a sneaky way of killing those high bandwidth users who leave their machines leeching overnight.

TBH I just thought Talktalk was talkin crap.

I wasnt too happy that the lowered my speed. A least it is fixed tho.

I believe your second statement could be very true.

Why don't you look elsewhere for a better ISP.

If he's on their LLU service theres nothing wrong with TalkTalk

I am on the LLU service. But I find talktalks' customer service is horrendously bad, they really dont know what they are doing. Prob change isp when my contract is done

I have heard that, never had to use them.

Have you tried posting on the members forums? Seen a lot of people get problems sorted on there. TalkTalk staff read and post as well as customers and they will go and look at individual issues.
