Yeah another boring thread but needing help. Me and two of my friends are moving into a new flat next week. We don't have a phone line, so wondering what we would need for the internet? And also can anyone reccommend good deals?

All you really need is a BT landline. When you say it doesn't have one, I take it it can have one. Most ISP's will require that. Once you have one, simply sign up, get sent what is called a microfilter (and the ISP will provide you with it), plug it into the phone socket, connect the computer to the microfilter (again the ISP will provide the cables) then install the ISP's software and Bob's your uncle.

Failing that, you could get cable. There is a bit of a problem with that. Not that it's a bad service or more difficult to use, just that if you are sharing a flat you'll need to get the landlords permission as the engineer will need to come out and install it. Normally involving drilling holes in a wall at some point. You don't need a BT landline with cable. Depending on the company you get cable with, you'll be able to get TV and a phone line as part of the package.

If you dont go for cable, dont get a BT line put in until you've looked into who has LLU available at your exchange. Someone like Sky or Talktalk will give a much better service if you can get on their LLU than anyone you'll get through a BT line.

You could get wireless broadband - think its about £20 a month. No idea if its good or not, but it seems to be getting advertised everywhere.
