To be quite frank 90% of the suggestions on this thread have been simply moronic.
Example: Chrstiano Ronaldo overrated?!?!?!
42 goals last season tells you a different story.

Aye good call,
Great playes never have tournements when they fail to live up to Hype.
Henry (Euro 2000 onwards, Ronaldinho (WC 2006) etc etc
Top scorer in last years champions league final, plus a goal in the final also tells a different story.

I've tried to go for players who cost obscene amounts of money (wages or fees) without ever really meriting it.
Michael Ballack - Just an average player. Never worth 30m.
Nicolas Anelka - His heart just isn't in it. And I hate his brother too.
Frank Totti - Prima donna of the highest order. The boy's got a bit of talent but he's nowhere near as good as he thinks he is.
Raul - see Totti.
Guti - is he still around? I used to laugh at him. A lot.
Cant believe some of the suggestions on here though.
Surely you cant say someone is under-rated if they inspire their teams to win trophies!
Lampard - scores 20+ goals a season from midfield almost every year and has plenty of medals for his efforts.
Gerrard -

Liverpool are nothing without him.
Single-handedly dragged them to the Champions League trophy.
Barry Ferguson - won the league for Rangers with 30 goals from midfield a few years back.
Doesn't get forward as much now but he still controls matches.
Let's wait and see how well Scotland keep the ball without him on Saturday!

We might not keep the ball as much, but we'll sure as hell pass it forward more often and look like creating more chances.

5. Aiden McGeady - decent player, but needs to remember he has team-mates when he goes on one of his mazy runs. Hopefully that will come in time.
4. Barry Ferguson - World-class? I've just never seen it
3. Emile Heskey - couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo, but has somehow been capped nearly 50 times by England. Go figure...
2. Roberto Carlos - a free kick wizard we were led to believe after his peach against France in Le Tournoi in 1997 - never to be seen again.
1. David Beckham - has no pace, can't chase back, can't tackle, can't run at players, can't header, his wife's ugly, he shagged Rebecca Loos, earned over 100 caps for his country and made a fortune in football from just being able to take free kicks (very well, in fairness). Not bad for a one-trick pony

Ronaldo at no.1 easily. All we need is one of those number 5 gongas that plays CB to kick him the whole game..
.. And nobody say he will just skin him because he won't. Smallest bit of contact and Ronaldo is down like a sack.

I partly agree but some players win World Player of the Year, just on the back of a good big tournament.
Cannavaro didn't have a great season but won the award because of Italy's defensive record in 6/7 games in the World Cup. Thierry Henry should have won the award at least once, but then players like fat Ronaldo have a good world cup, and then it's snatched from him.
I find the decision making flawed, and very rarely agree with the panel's decision, minus the glorious Zidane years. He was brilliant during the season, as well as at the World Cup/Euro's.

Ballack kept Chelsea in the hunt for the title last season, hardly shite.
He has also scored 38 goals at international level, from midfield, which is hardly bad, especially when you look at Miroslav Klose, who is a striker, he has scored 41 in 83.
Ballack shite?
