Full Version: Tuesdays Prediction...

Cant see a thread about predictions for Tuesdays game (if there is, please merge) so i'll kick it off.

There will be goals. I'm seeing the half empty glass and thinking a 3-1 win for Nordsjaelland (sp?). Queens to score first.

Dont wish it too be. So jealous I cant be there, and to progress (unlikely, I admit) would at least give me another chance to see Queens abroad.

Those who are going, enjoy the trip! I dont want any duty-free thanks, but please bring back a 2-0 win please biggrin.gif

Might as well use this as a match preview thread too I suppose, not that there'll be too much response from Queens fans generally as most will be going to the match, some of whom have already left and most of the rest go tomorrow.

A few questions to answer about the likely team, though with Arbuckle unavailable that clears one up. We only have 20 registered players for Europe so Scally not being fit yet and Arbuckle being ruled out means the other 18 will all get stripped for the game, which will mean a first competitive involvement for Gerry McLaughlin.

Can't see Bell not being the keeper, even if Halliwell is recovered from his groin problem. Cammy has taken his chance well when it came and surely has the place to lose at the moment.

Harris will certainly be left back, got to imagine Jim Thomson will be centre back, he was much better at Dunfermline midweek than previously this season. Barr will play but whether he plays centre back with Reid on the right or right back with Aitken or even Adams at centre remains to be seem. I can't see Aitken starting seeing as he had a poor game and was sent off in his last outing but I wouldn't mind if he did. He and JT play better together than either appears to do with anyone else.

The other six remains to be seen. Can't see Burns, Tosh and O'Connor not playing. If we go 4-4-2 then presumably McQuilken wide left and a choice between MacFarlane and Adams in the middle and Kean and Dobbie up front. If we choose to use three strikers then McQuilken won't start, Burns will sit a little narrower and it's still a choice between MacFarlane and Adams, depending on whether you want a sitting midfielder in front of the back four (MacFarlane) or a box to box one who can be a threat at the other end (Adams).

I think I'd go:
C Bell
C Reid---J Thomson---C Barr---R Harris
P Burns---S Tosh---J Adams---J McQuilken
S Dobbie---S O'Connor

but it's especially hard to leave out Kean who has 7 in 8 starts for us including pre-season. Maybe his mobility might be more important than Dobbie's guile, especially early on? unsure.gif

MacFarlane would also be very unlucky but we're behind in the tie already so we may as well play an extra midfield goal threat as sit on a deficit I think. Playing McQuilken already makes the midfield more defensive anyway.

Let's hope we do ourselves proud.

I think whatever way Chisholm arranges the back 4 will raise eyebrows. Ideally (IMO anyway) i would play Barr at RB, and Thomson and Adams in the middle. Harris is a given. As you say, the box-to-box player that Adams is will be of massive benefit, and it leaves room for Macfarlane to tidy up if need be. Adams is reasonably quick and should cope with Nordsjaelland attacks. I certainly wouldnt play Aitken - only on grounds of match fitness though.

Up front - O'Connor and Dobbie. Has to be be for me - then let Kean on for last 20 or so mins. (once Dobbie has obviously scored the 2 goal advantage!)

cannot wait! at 5,30 am we'r all leaving on mnibus fae palmy!! I am gonna say 2-0 qos. This team have always surprised us when the chips are down in recent seasons and they know this will be probably there last shot at the uefa cup! If we get an early goal we will have them rattled, and with a noisy, colourful and vociferous suppport behind the boys who knows!? MON THE SOUTH!!

Would love a Queens win but don't see it....good luck though and have a great time.

I think queens will win 2nil. Hope use have a great trip

I think we can and will score. There are threats all over the team with scoring strikers and midfielders. At set pieces even our centre half's are a goal threat as was seen in the first match.

The question is can we score two without conceeding. I cannot see us not conceeding a goal. They were a threat all over the pitch last week with mobilty and angled runs all over the pitch. They looked comfortable on the ball. The pitch I am sure will suit them better were they can knock the ball about on the ground.

My heart says 3-1 Queens but by head is saying 2-2 draw which will not be enough but will leave an exciting 10-15 mins as we push forward for the winner.

1-1. But hope I am wrong and we get through

Im with you on that. I think we'll score, but I cant see them not scoring.

I think a lot will depend on how the danes approach the game. If they come at us we could well get a hammering sad.gif If they sit in and hit us on the break, like the first leg, then it might be a closer game.
Flash
I think he'll stick with Barr in the middle and Reid at right back because he seems to think they managed a clean sheet in the last two games due to this set up and not in spite of it. I also think he won't play 4-4-2.
If he plays the defence I think he will, and anything other than 4-4-2, I think we will be on the end of an embarrassing rout.
The weakest part of their team is the same as ours - the defence (only theirs isn't as bad as ours). We really should have attacked them more in the home game, but Chisholm was too scared about their speed on the break, so didn't want to risk it. However, you can attack without going mad.
To be fair, I think whatever side we put out, we're going to lose. My big worry is that he sends out a team as disorganised as the one in the first leg and we get absolutely thrashed. I know the first leg was only 2-1, but it could easily have been more. Not because they were that great, but because we were handicapped by weird personnel and tactical decisions.
If Chisholm messes with the team selection, like he did in the first leg, we'll lose and we'll lose big.
Palmerston_1919
totally gutted i am not going to this, but macedonia and iceland is costing me a small fortune so could not afford a trip to denmark. A friend of mine was playing golf with big JT last week and apparently he was of the opinion that the danes are definately beatable and there is a genuine belief in the squad that we can do it. hopefully we can.

has to be 4-4-2 for me, mcquilken in at left mid. the danes are dodgy at the back so there should be goals in it. Heart says 3-1 queens, head says 4-0 to them.

on the contary, i actually think they will be more of a threat if they sit in because they have so much pace and movement up front and therefore are very dangerous on the counter. in the first leg when we pressed forward it left gaps at the back and thats when they exploited our lack of pace at the back. i'd actually prefer it if we didnt go out all guns blazing because i fear the tie may well be over quickly.

personally i'd like us to just play a sensible tight game and look to knick a goal, and then push forward in the middle of the second half.
palmy_cammy
We shouldn't be changing our system to suit them, we should play the system that did us so well last season, the system that gave us the right to play in this cup in the first place. For this reason I find it insane people are considering dropping Macfarlane! Every good team in the world has a holding midfielder and big Neilly is that player for us. I'm aware we need to score two goals, but we managed 4 against Aberdeen and 2 against Rangers playing Macfarlane, and I'm certain the fact he played contributed to us not conceding more than the six we did in those respective matches.

We must use the mindset that produced that mental Semi-Final against the Dons, if you score we will score again, and as long as it is us who gets the first goal success really is possible.

Heart says a 3-2 win for us, head doesn't have a clue because of the conditions at Airdrie. They looked pacey and full of slick passing, this can only be improved on a surface that isn't a bog.

Whatever happens it is going to be historic and I can't fuckin' wait!

Ideal team -

Bell
Barr, Thomson, Adams, Harris
Burns, Tosh, Macfarlane, McQuilken
Dobbie, O'Connor

Chis' team, your guess is as good as mine no doubt it will be unexpected...

Maybe, but they were happy to sit in and not really do much in the first leg. Yes, we rode our luck a couple of times and they created a few chances but you got the sense they were playing within themselves a bit.

If they choose to do that tomorrow night then the pattern of the game could be very similar to the 2nd half of the first leg. They only scored one goal on the break in the first leg, which is why I think it will be closer if they sit in. I just have this horrible feeling that if we do go ahead then they'll just step up a gear sad.gif
Szamo's_Ammo
3-0 to Nordsjaelland.

It will be fantastic if Queens can somehow pull off a result but I really can't see it.
Toby Fair
Ì'm not looking for us to go daft, but I do think we need to 'go for it' to an extent.
Of course their pace and power make them a threat on the break and I also harbour the suspicion that they played within themselves a bit that night at Airdrie. I don't think they met a terribly strong Queens then either though. We were hamstrung by our quaint deployment of personnel and childish individual mistakes.
I've read Keane on the OS suggesting that we simply mustn't lose an early goal and Chisholm saying the first goal is so important. Now obviously, I'd rather we didn't concede early on, but materially, being one down makes very little difference. Either way, we need to score twice or we're out. This being so, we can afford to run risks if they allow us a sniff at the other end.
We might get thrashed tomorrow night and that would be a shame, but we're capable of scoring goals and we can't let the very understandable fear that they can too, handicap us too much.

It kills me just thinking how lucky you c***s are laugh.gif Anyway good luck.

Anybody looked at the odds for this game? some crazy prices on a Queens win - bet365 offering 40-1 on a 2-0 queens win. 9-1 for the win alone.

Yup, i know the bookies are 99.99% correct most of the time, and i know rightly in my head that it cant really be done, but i quite fancy a fiver on 2-0 queens, 3 quid on a 3-1 win (81-1) and the other 2 quid of my tenner a week gambling allowance on a 2-1 win for the south (26-1).

You never know, eh. tongue.gif
