Instead he claims he had one in his sights on loan (Yet we know nothing about this player) and the loan deal is being neglected.
It wasn't a loan deal. The player in question, after initially missing out on Paul Dixon, was Tuomo Kononen, a Finnish international who is out of contract with Odd Grenland at the end of the season. Odd Grenland have signed a replacement for Kononen but rejected an offer from Saints of around £10,000 and now won't let the player leave at this moment.

I thought Liam Craig was The Second Coming who you had prised from our grasp

He might well be but not at left back. Hopefully someone that is going to sit on this tribunal was at Firhill on Saturday. You'll end up having to give us money.
Agree with everyone who says Smith wasn't the answer. He's not the worst player in the world but he wouldn't even been an option in July, so we shouldn't be giving him a contract now. He was shown the door after the Thistle game in any case.
The reference to Paul Sturrock is telling as well. We suffered much heavier defeats earlier in his reign and the Saints board sat in the Social Club at Ochilview and discusses whether they should sack him after the Scottish Cup defeat to Stenny. Thank God they didn't. I don't believe I'm even entertaining the notion that McInnes should be sacked on the back of two bad results though!
