Full Version: Time Saints Board And Fans Got Grip

we've been stuck in this hell hole league for too long, and the four managers we have had have all failed to get promotion, even the wonder man coyle couldn't. is it not about time we had a proven manager instead of, big geoff trying to scrimp on paying out for someone thts capable, and employing numpties like stark, connely and mcinnes. isnt it also about time he put his hand in his pocket and signed players of best quality possible instead of the collection of second rate, talentless rejects we have assembled now apart from a few with talent.

as for the fans isnt it about time they woke up and realised tht saints arent title contenders, and even if they did go up the squad we have now wouldnt be able to cope in the spl.

Have to say I agree with some of that.

We are constantly reminded how well Saints are run. Making massive profits year in, year out. Why aren't some of these profits used to buy their way to the league title. Or does GB believe it compitition and is simply giving us all a chance rolleyes.gif

That first post sounded a lot like how some Pars fans go on about Dunfermline. The trouble is there is no easy answer, Dundee, Dunfermline, St. Johnstone, Partick Thistle, Morton and Airdri are all clubs with a potential to be SPL. The fact is the 1st division is a hard league to get out of and each of the clubs have to contend with financial constraints. St. Johnstones board are probably no better or no worse than any of the others. In anycase boards really hav to live within their means now.The days of spending now and worrying about paying later are gone. Thats means fans have to be realistic that boards can only hire managers and players they can afford. Occasionally you'll get a Hamiton as in last season but i;d guarantee that sooner or later, most likely sooner the Hamilton bubble will burst and they will end up back in the first. Look at the last team to buy their way out of the first, they don't even exist now.

I find it especially amusing that you've gone to the trouble of registering a name tonight especially to rant about how bad you are and then misspelled "D E L U S I O N A L"

I don't really go in for picking people up on spelling mistakes but when it's in your user name it's pretty fundamental. wink.gif

Yes, if only Connolly had had some kind of pedigree. You should have gone for someone who had just won two trophies for an SFL team who hadn't done anything in decades and taken them to their highest league position since before the moon was conquered. It would have been even better if he'd enjoyed legendary status with your club as a player.

Face it. You've employed a few decent managers, but have failed to escape this league's clutches because only 10% of the clubs can do so in an upwards direction. The odds are therefore against in any given year. Blame the clubs who instigated such an unfair system. Oh wait...
Even this one might turn out well. Remember it is only August. Just because there's a "Let's all laugh at..." thread, you don't have to react like a spoilt Ranger fan.

In my case it's derived from a stage name Marillion used to use to perform undercover gigs for hardcore fans before they became really big..........The Skyline Drifters.

Where they got it from I have no idea. The phrase was in my head when I first registered for an internet forum somewhere and I use it for all registrations now.

Apparently the 'Skyline' is also a Nissan sportscar of some sort and 'drifting' is a style of driving sports cars and I have been contacted on this forum by someone who presumed I was into Nissan sportscars at one point. laugh.gif

'Skyline' was also the name of a hotel in Dumfries town centre that no longer exists but that's pure coincidence. I never even entered the place before it closed permanently and it's no deliberate tribute to that.

yes is pedigree almost had us relegated, some pedigree, oh yes and hes managing where now. And to the other retorts, saints are one of few teams not in the red who should be able to spend tht little bit more to get promotion, as unlike hamilton we only have one player as of yet to rise through the ranks and brake into the team. and the so called 10 % chance of getting out the league changes when your favorites or second favorites. and with the exception of dundee and dunfermline we are only team with spl pedigree, which would once again mean we should have the infrastruce in place to get us back to spl. and this isnt a reactionary statement born out because of a "lets all laugh at saints" topic or because we got beat today, we have been stuck in this league for far to long with each season passing our chances of gettin out slimming thts where my frustration lies

Spot on that man - it is very hard to get out of thanks to clubs like Dunfermline and St Johnstone who voted for a "one up - one-down" league structure to try to screw the rest of us.

Only 12.5% of teams escape the Championship. Proportionaly 2 up would be too much. A playoff would possibly be in order, but the size of our division means we are in no way hard done by.

Right then:

Not many would claim that Connolly was a success at St Johnstone and his spell there has clearly done his reputation considerable damage. He did have a pedigree however, which is why he was the first choice of the vast majority of St Johnstone fans at the time.

At no point did I suggest that teams had a 10% chance of winning the league. That would be daft - like suggesting that StMirren and Celtic have equally good chances of winning the SPL. I merely pointed out that only 10% could go up in a given year because of the way things have been set up by - among others - St Johnstone.

Finally, if you think Dundee, Dunfermline and yourselves are the only current SFL1 sides with SPL experience, then you're a bit dafter than I first thought and the first impression wasn't great.

I'd always assumed it related to the hotel. As for this nonsense about not being old enough to have ever drank there, Hell, I'm pretty sure you're the same age as me and I drank there (albeit a little underage). You're overreacting like some spoiled old firm gloryseeker. You'd probably forgotten what it was like to get a good hammering in the last three or so seasons then like buses two come along at once. Mind you hope the sequence gets broken on Tuesday as 5 - 0 to Livvy would depress even me.

Still got some players to come back. I'm sure Del is well aware where the weakness lies in the team. Any one want Samuel as an emergency loan ????

Was it open beyond 1988? Maybe it was. I didn't start drinking until I went to university to be honest and it certainly wasn't open by the time I came back to the town to work. It was an empty building and turned into Carson & Trotter accountants shortly afterward.

In all honesty he new the weaknesses before the season started and did nothing about it, Saints were strong in midfield and upfront last season and weak in defence. Del in his wisdom strengthened the midfield and forwards leaving you guys with NO left back an injury prone center half (Kevin James) and as stated by many saints fans on here the rest of the defence is as bad this year as last. Yet you guys all came on here slagging off Rae saying he is crap and ripping the players we were bringing in, hope you are all still feeling the same way now!!!!!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif 7 goals concede in 2 games OOPS!!!!!! rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif

Hate to say this but you're spot on. If he dosen't move to strengthen the defence in the coming week we should ask if he knows what he's doing. As fabcab says he's known these weaknesses all summer but done nothing about them. Personally hope he turns it around. You slag off the defence which was a bit ropey but never suffered a gubbing till the last two weeks. Del probably thought he's manage similar this year.

He knows different now. I hope
