I run a TV USB stick on Vista which is designed to receive Freeview on Windows Media Centre.

Recently I found that all channels from the BBC, notably most being transmitted at the same frequency (I don't know if this is relevent) have become very shuddery, whilst stv, and all associated channels, Channel 4, and all associated channels, are fine. Sky Sports News has always been a bit shaky as has Dave, despite being fine on our Freeview box downstairs, but this spread to the BBC has severely limited my viewing.

I've had a look at the wiring, and everything seems to be connected to the roof arial booster in the loft fine, and I've tried totally cleaning the registry of my TV software and drivers, before doing a fresh re-install with the most up to date firm-ware, but with no difference to the results.

Does anyone have a scooby what's going wrong?

If you had it before but not now then chances are your ariel's shifted slightly. The channels are sent in groups, and all the bbc ones are sent in one group (cant remember the technical term). We had that problem, and changing/shifting the ariel sorted it out

I'd suspected this might be the case. The odd thing is that the Digibox in the lounge and the analogue signal in the front room have no problems.

Anyway...the technical term is "multiplex"...all (well, most of) the BBC channels are on the same Multiplex.

There's no maintenance at Durris just now and really if any channels should be breaking up, it should be STV and the like because they're broadcast at 64QAM, compared to 16QAM for BBC (the higher the "QAM" the weaker the signal...basically).

As daft as it may sound, try using a different USB port. Or re-installing the drivers.

Alternatively, perhaps your PC has just decided it doesn't like the concept of a TV licence.

Interestingly, BBC Four, BBC Parliament and CBeebies works fine, but BBC One, Two, Three, CBBC and BBC News all have the irritating glitchyness.

I've tried different USB ports, complete software and driver wipe and re-install, retuning etc. etc.

The most annoying thing is it works downstairs on the Freeview box just fine...

Have you tried using the same aerial feed that your TV is using?...

They're all connected to the same booster. I've tried every single possible combination (there's 4 ports) and the result is always the same.

It's really annoying, as I'm having to resort to iplayer, which has a 24 hour delay and eats into our monthy usage allowance...

Is the product in question by any chance made by Pinnacle?

Nope. It's one of these, and I've had it for about 18 months.

On XP, it ran with WinTV as the application. The application is incompatible with Vista, but when I installed it in late May on my Vista Home Premium, it ran without any trouble on Windows Media Centre until the start of August.

The channels with the problems are on the same multiplex; the BBC channels that are working, are on a different multiplex.

Don't just try swapping about the cables at the booster end. Literally use the cable that is currently feeding your TV to see what happens.

I suspect your cable may be slightly damaged and is letting in interference on that one UHF channel.

I've had a look at that cable too, but it seems fine...

Cheers for the idea anyway.
