Anyone else on here had problems with BT and their absolutely useless homehub?

Right now I'm getting a piss poor connection speed (less than 1.5 MB when its meant to be up to 8MB) , regular disconnection from the net and most worryingly of all terrible interference on my phone line.

Now I know all the microfilters are fine as I replaced them and that there are no problems with the phone line as I have tested that also (was shown how to do this by a BT engineer a while back). But I'm still having problems with the interference.

Tried all the usual resetting and re installation with no joy. I have e-mailed BT about it twice, both times i recieved emails telling me to check my filters and line (despite saying i'd already done this in my initial emails. I phoned them last night and surprise surprise got through to a call centre located somewhere in India. Absolutely fucking useless, the woman on the end of the phone could barely string two words of english together and told me that because I was still getting a connection (intermitantly mad.gif ) there was nothing she could do. She then hung up on me.

Anyone else experiencing BT hell???

BT's customer service is terrible. I gave up with them when getting a phone line installed last year and after some Googling found you could e-mail the chief executive direct. Did that and had a phone call from his office within a few hours apologising for the trouble and I eventually got three months free line rental too.

Only problem is the chief executive has since left, no doubt because he was daring to help out the grubby little people dry.gif

I've had a BT connection for years and only do so because it can be added onto my phone bill.

Despite having a Homehub and a BT Vision Box, both of which are in their packaging and remain unused, I still use the original BT Voyager 105 USB modem, which shouldn't connect at more than 2Mbs, yet works fine on my 8mb connection.

As for technical support, BT sucks beyond belief. 20 minutes dealing with a call centre operator who is reading from a tick list and has as much experience with computers as I have with Indian call centres.

I have a BT HomeHub and Bt Vision and since I got them I have never had any bother with them. The connection speed is usually around 6MB when it is up-to 8MB, so that is pretty good.

Don't get me wrong, I don't not use them because they won't work. I just don't need them. I couldn't give two fucks for BT's Vision Box, I just like the idea they wasted money giving me one that I won't use.

In fact they have sent me a letter saying, because I haven't used the Vision box, that I will lose my service (not that it would matter) and that they would like the box back. Oh, how I laughed. I believe my exact phrase was, "suck ma boaby" to which the asian call centre worker seemed at a loss with what to reply with.

Starting to really loose the plot with this now, no matter how many times you tell them the homehub is faulty, they just say check your microfilters. Demanded to speak to a manager earlier, even he couldn't string more than two words of english together. Absolute fuckng joke of a company.

I've had the same bother, I also get about the same connection speed and my wireless is absolutely gash. It keeps on disconnecting then saying "no wireless networks in range".

Are you experiencing interference with you phone line too?

Chucked BT, went to Tiscali.

It's all Thatcher's fault. Nationalize BT, that's what I say.

I had problems with the BT Voyager 105 that I had. The connection kept dropping out, and you had to re-connect sometimes ever couple of minutes.
I sent several email to them, and got no esponse, then they had the cheek to phone me up trying to get me to sign a new 18 month contract.
I refused to do so until they would take time and replace my router.

After about three weeks of engineers being sent out to check the line they found no problems, of course it was the router that was the problem, but the engineers weren't able to check that as they were only told about the line.

The fourth time they came out, I had a stoke of luck in that it was my cousin who was the engineer, and he obviously realised the problem, and managed to put through on the report that it was the router.

I then managed to get a customer service call from a British person who was very appologetic, especially since the fault had been going on for around 5 months.

In the end they gave me a wireless homehub, and the walkabout phone, all for the same price of £5.99 a month, although they did insist on the 18 month deal.

So far though I have had no problems with it,... Seems to be working a treat

That's the un-wisest move you have ever made. Please start a thread after phoning them for the first time.

It took 3 months, more than 20 phone calls, emails to their directors/heads of departments/watchdog etc and threats of legal action to get back money that they were due me.

Worst company on the planet.

Thats got f**k all to do with BT itself, either you have something affecting the wireless signal from the router or your PC's wireless card (if you have one) needs checked out. It sounds like a Pc setting to me.

I have had bt broadband and homehub for over 18 months and had no problem.

It does sound as if the problem lies within your pc.

Go into your device manager and check the setting on your wireless card.

I use a Linksys USB wireless adaptor.

My PS3 has the same problems with the wireless as the PC.

Try to avoid any wireless channels that arent 1, 6 or 11. These are the only three where the frequencies dont overlap with any other channels.

In the home of course, it probably isnt all that important as the chances of someone being on channel 8 or 10 (cant remember which one overlaps with 9) and them causing significant interference to you are very low.

Finally looks like my problems are getting sorted. Got talking to a guy who works for BT the other day and he said he'd heard of people experiencing the same kind of problems as me due to a high resistance fault in the line (something BT's online line checker can't detect). So phoned them up and explained everything and their line dept. didn't have a clue what I was on about.

They put me through to broadband and I actually got to speak someone who could speak pretty good english. They did a quick test, seemed bamboozled so said that they will send an engineer out to me within the next 48hrs free of charge. I just hope this solves it.

They are limiting your connection.
Check you signal to noise ratio and line attenuation from your master socket.
I gave up with these fuckwits after taking a half day off work to get it sorted out, they never even phoned back.
Give up and get Sky.

Would if i could. One month into an 18 month contract sad.gif On the bright side, got a call from bt a few mintues ago telling me they had remotely accesed my nearest exchange and made changes. I've to monitor my connection over the next day or so and if i'm still experiencing problems, get back to them.

Two weeks on and I'm not really any further forward with them. Lost all patience with the useless b*****ds, had the engineer out and he checked the line - found no faults. he then picked up the phone and no interference (heard for myself too). So as far as he was concerned problem solved.

Lasted about 3 hours before it was back to square one. Now despite the fact I've had an engineer when I phone them up the say they will do a diagnostics test on my line and connection. When I suggest they just send a replacement hub and stop fucking me about they say " oh but our engineer didn't say in his report it was faulty"

Absolute shower of fucking useless cretins. I've been told they will call me at 11am tomorrow to check for improvement as they have changed something in the exchange but it now seems worse than ever. Finally managed to speak to someone in the uk who was a rude, arrogant knob jockey who came out with pelters like "well what do you expect ME to do"

Once this 18 month contract is up i'm getting out, that is unless i can get them for breach of contract and get out early.

He probably found out you were a St Mirren fan.

Seriously though, get business broadband from BT, it may cost a bit more but all the call centres are in the UK and you get your fault fixed a lot quicker.
Death warmed up
I've got it and have had no problems. The home hub works well and services the Wii as well as a laptop.
