Why can't i copy and paste pics into p&b? When using Ie i could copy images into my replies but using FireFox it just wont work. Can this be solved or is it one of those things?
Also when i try to open a page with streaming football it says that i don't have sopcast and should download it. When i go through Ie it finds the sopcast web player no problem.
Appreciate any help.
Ric
I'll do the last first.

In terms of sopcast, it's either been installed before firefox (and thus it's plugin protocol is not set - the thing that tells firefox to open sopcat for sop://server.com/ links) or for some reason firefox has "lost" it. There are several ways to solve this, the easiest is just to uninstall and reinstall sopcast and it should solve the problem.

In regards with the cut and paste, can you tell me what Board Settings you have? When logged in, look at the menu at the top right of the page and you'll see a link called "My Controls". Click that, then when the next page appears, look down the menu on the left, near the bottom will be a link called "Board Settings", select it. On the right pane the last option will be, "Type of text editor to use when posting". Tell me what it's set to.

I've just started using FireFox (about 2 months) and Sopcast a lot longer so that's solved that.
It's set to "rich text editor"

Right, ok, this is to do with the way the Rich Text Editor (RTE) works with clipboard content.

I could give a long drawn out explanation of OLE and the Windows clipboard, but it would bore you and take me 20 mintues to write it out.

Instead, just go by a basic rule. If you copy an image from FF, and try and paste it into the RTE nothing will be shown. However if you copy that image from IE, for example, then try and paste it, it will work. And example shown here..

Where I copied the image in IE, and I am replying using FF. You can copy images in FF then paste them into word documents and the like, it's just the way the clipboard works for the RTE implemented in Firefox.

Thanks Ric.

It's interesting as I never use the RTE on P&B, and have always favoured the standard editor. I suppose I'm just a bit old school in that, as I wouldn't expect to just cut'n'paste, I expect to do something like..

Ick.

I've just installed the latest version, and it does horrible things to my address bar. It doesnt just auto complete the URL now, but it gives the name of it and helpful titles. I don't like it.

Indeed, but it's still better than Opera... tongue.gif

Actually it seems I am wrong, well wrong to an extent.

While right clicking and copying the image then trying to paste it into the RTE doesn't paste the picture in as it does in IE, you can however select the image using the mouse (like you would select text, copy it like that the go to the RTE and paste it in.

Just noticed that the other day actually. I rarely use RTE's in either browser (preferring the plain text BBCode style).

Got to say I prefer the new way, seems a lot nicer.

While we are on the subject of FF and addons, has anyone tried Ubiquity? It tries to tie up separate resources into the one addon. Watch the video (although forward it on to a minute in) on the linked page.

It's still in total alpha mode (only a .1 release) so don't expect it to be flawless, but it does seem to offer a simple way of interacting with independent resources.

The Gray Ghost is now officially retired! His work here is done. :: swooshes :: Im just waiting for namechange day.

Although one concession I do make to change is that Ive installed YouPlayer for firefox. It gives me a youtube window at the left of my browser, and lets me browse with music on in the background. Its rather good! biggrin.gif

You don't use them because they are next to useless. If they were similar to FF addon's then you would love them.. wink.gif

Ach, we've had this chat a few times, I still find FF the nicer browser to use with the extensions adding an extra layer of niceness on top of it.

Although it is fair to say I use my browser for lots of things other than just browsing the web.

I used to use FF and never used any extensions. But you're right, we've been over this all before laugh.gif
