Starting to get excited about this game now biggrin.gif

I dont suppose we'll get much banter with the Nordsjaelland fans on here, but may as well have a pre-match thread anyway.

I guess the big questions for us are 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 and Dobie - start or bench?

Most of us would find those questions incredibly easy to answer.
The problem is that Mr Chisholm might not copy our answers.

I would go 4-4-2 with Dobbie starting.

It'll be 4-4-2. I can't see that there's any doubt about that. There's no way he's going to try an expansive front three against Nordsjaelland in a European tie surely.

If everyone is fit then there are four questions to answer:-

1 - Which pair play centre half? Probably the most obvious answer as I doubt Aitken did enough to keep JT out on Saturday. Can't see Thomson not playing.

2 - Does Harris come straight in at left back? If he's not fit that answers the question but if he is then should he step straight back in? He's our best left back without doubt but he won't be match sharp and McQuilken has been our best defender in the games to date for me. I think Harris will play if available though.

3 - Who plays left midfield? Arbuckle's showing on Saturday gives food for thought but I'd have thought he'll be cautious at least initially and opt for McQuilken in front of Harris (if of course Harris is fit). If Harris isn't fit then McQuilken will have to play full back and I'd guess Arbuckle probably is the best option on the left.

4 - Toughest one of all, who play up front if it is two from three? Personally I'd like to see the established pair of Dobbie and O'Connor start but that would be incredibly harsh on Kean who has a goal a game since he joined us and played well on Saturday.

What an occasion it will be though. Can't wait.

SD, how are the tickets selling now? Speaking to Craig P on sat and he mentioned the sales are still pretty disppointing. I'm guessing we must be around the 4000 mark by no

I take it they're selling them stand by stand. At this rate we'll only have two open!

I haven't been at the ground today, or Friday for that matter so I don't actually know. I'd be very surprised if they've reached 4,000 though. I'd think nearer 3,500 at the moment.

Unless we get over 6,000 there will only be two stands open so yes, I think it's a given there will only be two open.
wearealldoomed
The main stand holds 3750. I assume the couple of dozen visiting Danes are getting the usual away stand to themselves?

Alo, if the crowd is anywhere near 4000, prepare for chaos on the apporach to the ground. The local plod are uselss at managing the flow of traffic, which led to the diddy cup final being held back by half an hour or so a couple of years back.

Cant wait for this game now. Still cant quite believe I'm going to be watching Queens play in a European tie. Just a shame I wont be watching it from a packed Portland drive end. sad.gif
With regards to the team I just hope we revert back to 4-4-2 and Dobbie starts. Also would like to see Harris play if he's fit.

I agree. Real shame we can't play at Palmerston, but hopefully we'll be able to whip up an atmosphere on Thursday evening.

Regarding the side, much depends on whether Harris is fit. I still think our strongest line-up is the tried and tested:
Halliwell
Barr Thomson Aitken Harris
Burns Tosh MacFarlane McQuilken
Dobbie O'Connor

However, after the performances of Arbuckle and Kean on Saturday, it would not be a great shock to see Dobbie and McQuilken on the bench. It also seems likely that Craig Reid will be preferred to Andy Aitken in the centre of defence. Whatever decisions are reached, I hope Chisholm opts for 4-4-2 and finds a starting berth for Dobbie. That, in my opinion, is most vital if we are to do well against FCN.

My first Queens game of the season. And it's costing me more to travel to than Copenhagen! ohmy.gif

Not quite sure what to expect as I haven't see Queens this season and have no idea about FCN apart from reputation and a few video clips. I'd imagine the danes will be quick, good on the ball and energetic. My first and possibly last trip to the Excelsior stadium too, unless we make the next round of the UEFA Cup. ph34r.gif

I think your crowd estimate will not be too far off the mark, though I don't see why playing at Rugby Park would have attracted another 1000 punters. It's just as easy to get to Airdrie from Dumfries as it is to travel to Kilmarnock. Kilmarnock may be nearer, but the road to Airdrie is better. If you had said NDP instead of Rugby Park then I may have been inclined to agree.

I think the intention was for tickets to be available on the night at the ground if the police gave permission. I've no idea whether such permission has been granted.
I really hope you can get in, because it could boost the gate a bit I'd imagine. It's not on TV and it might appeal to some Central Belt types like yourself. Motherwell obviously have their own adventure to concern themselves with, but for an awful lot of football fans in the area it'll now be their last chance (until the next round) to witness European football in the flesh this season.
A decent atmosphere is important.

The visiting Danish support will be in Section A of the Main Jack Dalziel Stand, where all small away supports are put at the Excelsior.

Likewise, I just don't "get" this suggestion that somehow hundreds more would have come to Rugby Park than Airdrie. It actually takes longer to get to by car even if it is marginally closer in mileage terms. In any event, anyone prepared to go over an hour in a car to get to the away ground surely doesn't care about ten minutes either way enough to not go as a result. Airdrie is actually a much more convenient location and more likely to attract neutrals I would have thought as it's much more central than Kilmarnock is. Also, whatever the crowd eventually is would have rattled around in the much bigger spaces at Rugby Park without making much atmosphere much less than it will in the smaller Excelsior.

NDP wasn't an option unfortunately though I guess the same principle ultimately applies. Would have been slightly handier though.

I would think tickets will be available on the day at the ground though I haven't heard that confirmed yet. Can't see why the police would object though. Any Dane who wants to go could have about five tickets each so there's no segregation ramifications. You can certainly buy tickets from Airdrie's stadium NOW. They have tickets to sell at the moment.

He doesn't have a goal a game at all because he didn't score against Airdrie. He has an average of a goal a game and that is a different thing. If he had scored three at Berwick and none in the next two league games, it would still be an average of a goal a game, but nowhere near as impressive as an actual goal a game.
Also, how do we know Dobbie wouldn't have scored an average of two goals a game had he been played up front? He might have got 6 against Berwick playing as a striker.
Dropping Kean now is not as harsh as dropping Dobbie in the first place. Maybe Chisholm should stick Kean in midfield first of all, to show how rubbish he is there, then drop him. Like he did with Dobbie.

I don't buy into any negativity on the go. AFAIK, the Danes (excuse me from trying to spell their name) aren't seasoned European campaigners and Queens on their day were a match for two sides that did well in this competition last season. They maybe aren't firing on all cylinders yet but hopefully Chis can get them in the right frame of mind. Obviously things are made a bit harder by playing in Airdrie but Queens are a quality side on their day and I've no doubt they can win this match and go to Denmark with something to defend. A sprinkling of their players have European experience and that could prove vital.

Really, really hope you get through this round and get a massive name in the next round.

Good Luck QOS, I really hope you can get through smile.gif

I'd also love it if Kean got a game, and scored. However, I know that Dobbie and O'Connor are more favoured, as Keano hasn't been there too long and it isn't known how well he'll play.

In the match preview Chisholm states that two of their players cost them £1m! How do they manage to do this - they have a 10000 seater stadium so that must be thier maximum crowd, and are only bringing a few to the away leg, which would suggest that they are not well supported.

Where is the money from - do they have a rich benefactor? Are the TV deals in Denmark good?

If you mean Danes coming to Scotland, haven't a clue. Very very few for sure. They were only sent 100 tickets and said they only needed half that at most.

Good luck to Queens. Would just add though to everyone going make sure you're there in plenty time. As has been touched on, the traffic management on the roads around the stadium for big games is pretty awful and if you're trying to cut it fine the chances are you will miss KO. I'd aim to be there about 45 mins to an hour early if I was driving there.

I'd agree with this guy. Went to the Challenge Cup Final at Airdrie a few years ago, kick off was delayed 15 minutes because they were still waiting on lots of fans.

As for the 4-5-1. will Kean be on the bench?

Solid info or your own view?
Wouldn`t be a big surpise mind you with perhaps the addition of Adams to bolster the midfield. Personally I think it would be crazy to leave out someone of Dobbie`s quality out of this game. Having been left out last week I`d imagine he`ll feel he has something to prove. Either way let`s get right behind the team whatever the formation.
