Full Version: We Should Have Played Today

Hadn't really thought about it, but why the feck are the huns playing today and not us?

If anyone was going to play at 12.30 today then it should have been us - SPL champions, new season cutrain raiser, unfurling of 07/08 SPL winners flag etc.

P.S. Yes I am bitter about having to go to a game tomorrow at such a ridiculous time.
Mr. Brightside
Everyone should be playing at the same time on the first day of the season, its silly having Sunday and Monday games dry.gif
KnightswoodBear
Totally agree, my mates who are off to Parkhead tomorrow and I were talking about this yesterday. The league should always be opened by the champions unfurling the league flag. If only for one game a season the TV companies should be told to feck off.
Beren
Completely agree. For one game in the entire calendar, all the games should have kicked off at the same time.

Probably the opening day and the closing day should all be at the same time.

Most likely although the split renders that less meaningful to a certain extent. The games at the start of the season, symbolically1, should all be played at the same time.

1 In that all the teams are/should be equal

But as we all know, to use a parliamentary term, the Gers are first among equals. wink.gif

See, I paid attention in Modern Studies!! laugh.gif

Let's at least remain realistic - of course games are going to be shown live be it on the opening day, the last day or those in between. Them showing live games is not my point/issue.

We know what your point was. The flag unfurling should have been done at the start of the season - the very start.

This is something most would agree with. I just happen to think that the first round of games should have been played at the same time.

We are allowed to post additional/different opinions in one thread are we not?

Yes and I at no time said you weren't so quite why you made such a comment/question I really cannot fathom.

Why state 'Them showing live games is not my point/issue.'?

For the first game they want at least one good footballing team on the tv so the Celtic game was not an option wink.gif

......because it wasn't rolleyes.gif

It's always nice to retain some sense of realism, don't you think?

We'll we can't argue with that.

Regardless, how dare you talk about another issue on this thread. You have been warned.

Yes, we know it wasn't. It's good to know that you feel you need to state what your point wasn't about as a thread broadens to a general discussion about the opening fixtures.

My point wasn't about the schism between the faithful elves that remained in Valinor and those that followed the sons of Feanor back over to Middle Earth.

Excellent stuff, I'm sure you'll agree.

As for realism, it depends on your take on realism, the SPL have sold out to TV and have felt that having the unfurling of the flag could be put back until Sunday. Realistically, this was ever going to be the case, especially since it happened, so your 'realistic' opinion was neither no more, nor was it no less, realistic than my or KnightswoodBear's wishes for the opening day of fixtures.

Well that's a rather interesting take on it. Does that mean that realistically, there was as equal chance of me going to the moon this morning for my breakfast than there was our game this weekend being on the Saturday at 12.30?! dry.gif

Yes. The game is not, or rather was not, played at 12.30 today and I'm basing this on an assumption: you did not go to the moon for breakfast this morning.

Because I was otherwise engaged and when I was in the last time, someone I was in with made a tit of himself.

I would rather have went to Darkhead today.

Sundays are not as good for transport and the like, plus the game is way too early. No pub time, and second rate transport regularity on a sunday is pretty rubbish IMO.

Fortunitely the actual Parkhead area cannot get any worse on any given day so at least that's a bonus, and you can always laugh at the devout plastic micks outside Bairds bar thinking of excuses for missing mass.

Thats modern football for you sadly.

My bus leaves at 9.15 tomorrow mad.gif

I don't want to get into trouble for changing the subject, but Hamilton have to wait until Monday to show their flag...

Regardless of the league, all first games should kick off at the same time...

laugh.gif A small village i doubt you have heard of. 30 minutes South of Ayr is easier to give you a rough idea. It takes about an hour and a half to get their so its not too bad.

cheer up the ref's a homer, he might not have been able to get today off to help out the cause.

I'd also have thought there's an advantage in knowing what rangers scored today.

Why? Its not as if its the last game of the season. We want and will beat St Mirren, no matter what Scotlands shame result was.
