Disapointing again today, we look a shadow of the team we have been in recent weeks and we also looked very tired in certain areas of the park.
Both of our centre backs are badly lacking any presence on the park and the Goalkeepr does not help when he constantly fumbles crosses or does not go and meet them as they come into the box.
The central midfeild area also lacks some punch and drive with a lack of fire power up front makes us look a very ordinary team.
Lets hope we can pick ourselves up soon before we have to do it all again the hardway!!!!!!!!!

I thought that was an excellent game with both sides serving up some good stuff.
First half Ayr looked different class and looked like genuine title contenders. Prunty and Williams were excellent - Prunty's off the ball movement is extremely intelligent and some of his lay-offs were fantastic. He needs some upper body strength however as he looks like he has straws for shoulders.
Ryan Stevenson was outstanding in the first-half, by drifting out of position into the middle. Some of his passes were absolute class and his interceptions really intelligent. Aitken still needs to offer more though.
I thought Alloa did pretty well in the second half, with Stevenson and McAuley outstanding. The number eight seemed to have a good game too, and Iain Campbell - who seemed to be much maligned signing - looked capable at this level.
In conclusion, good game of football with both teams trying to knock it around. I am delighted with our result and performance.

Happy with the result, and even happier by the reports ive heard and read so far.
Most pleasing aspect is how solid we looked at the back, last week against raith, and now a second game where ive heard we were solid at the back, much imporved area from last season, and long may that continue.
Last week i thought our only weak point was attack, created plenty of chances just couldnt find the killer touch, and although scoring 2 goals today, reports would have it we could and should have scored more, so thats still an area i recon we need to strengthen on, although im hoping Williams and Prunty can forge a decent partnership.
Gutted i missed the game now, seems like it was entertaining, something thats not been said about an Ayr game for a long time.

Dont take this as sour grapes but in the second half Alloa had a lot of decent chances but they were placed right to the Ayr goalkeeper. At this moment in time with the money you guys have been quoted as spending i thought your defence looked very ropey Scott Walker apart.
Your midfeild were the difference between the teams but in my opinion if is was an Ayr supporter i would still have a wee worry with whats in front of the goalie if you have any aspirations of winning this league.

A bit of a shock to see Alloa struggling, especially against an Ayr team that looked like they could have played for a week and not scored agains us (we were the same to be fair). Should be encouraging for us next week but you never know.

This is the best defence we've had for years, but it's still early and they will get even better. Scott Walker was excellent but Martyn Campbell is outstanding too.

I agree with that summation, somewhat worryingly.
Alloa looked a good side in the second half, but without much in the last third. Maybe that's because our defence is good this season and we're not used to keeping clean sheets, but still, Alloa have enough to be thinking about the play-offs at the right end of this league. Jamie Stevenson is a smashing player, he must be a bit frustrated at the lack of quality around him, although Kyle McAuley looked the part in spells.
As for Ayr, cheers lads, it's clear you
can actually play football.
Both goals were peaches, and finished very well. We dominated the first half and should have scored more. Second half we were up against it but the defence held firm , marshalled by Scott Walker who was superb.
If we can play even half the games like that we'll avoid the usual relegation battle.
Finally, I hope the ref wore a hole in his Alloa top blowing his whistle and pointing only one way for the entire second half, and my commiserations to him for being unable to help his team get anything from the game.

Sorry Callum, but it was nothing like East Stirling.
Yes the goals were scored in the 1st half but we also hit the post and had a goal (deservedly) disallowed in the 2nd.
And there was no capitulation in the last 5 minutes
To the Alloa fan who thought our defence looks ropey.......WHIT?
Big Martyn Campbell has been immense pre-season and when the real action started.
Unfortunately we missed the opening goal today though thanks to about 50 yards of pointless traffic cones just outside Glasgow really screwing up the traffic

A very pleasing 3 points today, if Ayr can carry the same level of performance shown in the 1st half today on for the rest of the season then we shouldn't be too far away.
Last week against Raith we looked solid enough but didn't cause them many problems but today we looked solid and also a lot sharper in the last third of the pitch.
Two excellent goals, Aitken was unlucky with two efforts, 1 hitting the post and the other he should have done better with after a Jellema mistake, aswell as a disallowed goal after another Jellema mistake. Good to see he knows where his heart is!!

Walker was a bit unlucky as the keeper had lost the ball and all Walker had to do was knock it into the empty net. It didn't bounce too kindly, though, and it was a really obvious hand-ball but I don't think he meant it. Had he not handled he'd have knocked it into the net easily.

Walker's goal should have stood. Jellema basically threw it at him. The handball was not intentional so it should have stood. That, or Aitken's shot going in would have finished the game. As it was, a tiring midfield failed to track back a few times and gave Alloa more chances than they deserved.
Disappointed in the ref. He gave way too many petty things and broke the play up too often. Booked 4 players, but failed to book the Number 8 for the worst challenge of the game into the back of Ryan Stevenson.
Nice to see Prunty get on the scoresheet as his hard work deserved something. More of the same next week please...

Fear not! Alloa will come good eventually, this has been the general theme of the last couple of seasons.
As for Ayr, although I didn't make it yesterday and am delighted with what I've heard of the performance, I'm well aware that one swallow does not make a summer and 45 minutes against a weakened Alloa side does not mean we will achieve a playoff.

Hill is very quick but his positioning leaves a lot to be desired. At least with Fraser you got consistency and no-nonsense defending. Don't think it's a coincidence Jelly looked shaky yesterday. Both goals came from Hill's area.
Generally agree the squad looks decent enough, but with Aggie going the team has lost the balance it had last year as we have no left-sided midfielder. Brown Ferguson and Dougie W will make a difference. I'd like to see us go back to a flat midfield 4 rather than the diamond to accomodate Scullion who (despite looking excellent pre-season and against Dundee) has been the biggest disappointment for me in the 2 league games.
Although he's no world beater we have to play Graham Brown up front. He's the only forward we have who give us a target and to whom the ball "sticks".

Agree with you on the point about Scullion, but have to strongly disagree about Hill/Forest. Dougie is a far better player all around, Fraser is not consistent, he has a run of a couple of games playing well but is always liable to give a daft goal or penalty away. Fraser is good to have as back up though and is still better than Sandra (in response to the Cowden comment).

Aug 10 2008, 14:59
Forrest and Hodge are okay if they are playing alongside a decent centre half. I hear Townsley may be injured for Tuesday night so we might have to go with Forrest and Hill at the back.
Anyway, deserved victory yesterday for Ayr, controlled the game, very solid defensively and always looked more likely to score, even when they were 2 ahead. Alloa didnt seem to be in control of the midfield at any point, and were looking for a bit of luck in the final third rather than creating anything through ability.
Plenty of endevour by Jamie Stevenson, and McAulay also plugged away, but Scullion and Grant were never really in it. Cant wait til Bomber is back. Graeme Brown still doesnt look sharp enough, and with Ferguson once again injured we really need him on his game.
Not too worried about the poor start, it is going to be pretty tight this year, and the team will get plenty of chances to climb the table. However it is a slight concern that the opposition looked like scoring every time they ventured up the park for the second week in a row.
Really need to take something next week though, and a win might make all the difference.

Three ex-Cowden players mentioned here. Hill is a great asset, I'm sure at the end of the season any doubters will be convinced. Pat Scullion blows hot and cold - when he is good he is very good but when he is bad.... And as for Broonie - he could get a game for any team in your league - and most first div. teams too.
