Would I be right in saying that Celtic may be in pot 4 for the big draw?
I suspect this may be the case depending on who qualifies and given that the Seville year no longer counts towards Celtic's co-efficient.

Just kidding, clicky

I also suspect, given their euro run last year, that Rangers would have been in pot 3 or possibly even pot 2. Alas it wasn't to be...

I done the clicky thing, but surely that isn't the final pots given the third qualifiers have still to be played...

The teams you see in the pots with asterisks next to them are the ones yet to qualify. Bert always puts the seeded teams 'through' in his pots prior to the ties being played. Celtic can only move further up and there are three very do-able wins for unseeded teams: Atletico to beat Schalke, Sparta to beat PAO and GS to beat Steaua. You'd still need another 4 upsets to reach pot 2 though.

Rangers would have been 2nd in pot 3.

Thanks for that Pollymac!

Yeh as someone said we are in Pot 3 but to get into pot 2, we need 7 out of 8 certain teams to get knocked out in the qualifiers. mellow.gif

Which is not going to happen realistically. Celtic will almost certainly be in Pot 3.

Surely that first away win would come if we got FC Cluj.

That would be great. Not only would it be a great chance for us to cement at least a UEFA Cup spot, in the away game hardly any fans would travel which going on recent away games in Europe can only be a good thing.

My only wish this year is that we don't have to play bloody Benfica, A.C. Milan or Barcelona again. I'd like to experience something different for a change!

When is the draw made?

I see. And a 4-0 win at home gives you your first away win in the Champions League how??

itd be nice if we got chelsea, they could come up here and see a proper football club with history, prestige and passion outplay a bunch of overpaid, whining, premiership 'superstars'.

Any english team would do though, just so we could beat them and puncture the hubris and arrogance of the prem.

That would be an easy draw when you consider who they could get. Sporting are an average team, as shown by Rangers knocking them out the UEFA Cup and Lyon are the weakest of the top seeds. I would give Celtic a good shot of at least second place in that group.

Celtic in with...

Man Utd and Villarreal!

Aalborg FK... huh.gif

You will certainly be third favourites in that group, as both Man U and Villareal are better teams. But you do have a chance and are virtually guarenteed at least UEFA Cup football after Christmas.

well at least we will still have a Scottish team in Europe after Christmas again

even if it will be the Euro Cup , at least we have one representative to hopefully carry on what Celtic and Rangers have done in recent years in Europe

They are clearly 3rd favourites behind Utd and Villareal and i fully expect Celtic to come 3rd behind that 2

no problem for Celtic fans to be hopeful and optimistic but in reality 3rd is the best they can achieve so Euro Cup for them

if they get through it will be a good achievement , just don't feel they are capable of upsetting the big 2
ChampionsElect
Great draw.

Fancy beating Villareal at home, and also Allborg. We will give Man U a game and you never know. To go through I think we need to beat Allborg away, which isn't our best area but it has to change sometime.

Got to be in it, to win it.

You've been playing too much Football Manager. laugh.gif

In the real world, it's called the UEFA Cup.

And how exactly is 3rd the best they can achieve? Man Utd will probably win the group, but Villarreal aren't exactly Barcelona. They're a good side, but Celtic are well capable of beating them at Parkhead.

Looks like last 16 could be possibility again.
If they can get the away game hoodoo sorted in at least one of the group games they could be well in with a shout.

haha you are probably right with the FM quote tongue.gif

regards to finishing 3rd , i think they will need to win all 3 home games plus get a result away to the Danes , and i just don't see that happening as i think they will lose to Utd away , lose to Villareal away and i don't think they will beat Utd at home again

i think they will beat the Danes at home , and could beat Villareal at home so that would mean 6 points plus a draw at the Danes means 7 , and possibly a draw at home to Utd means 8 , and i don't think 8 , and that is being generous regarding draw at home to Utd , just don't think that will be enough as i think Villareal will win at home to Celtic and beat the Danes twice giving them at least 9

i hope i am wrong , as i like seeing Scottish teams make as much progress as possible , i just don't think Celtic have the quality to get past Villareal they may be only 4th best in Spain but that is still better than our level here in Scotland at the moment

Great draw. 2nd is not completely impossible, we should be looking to beat both Villarreal and Aalborg at home and probably Aalborg away as well, and then hope to at least pick up more points against Man Utd than Villarreal do!

Villarreal games should be superb, a draw in El Madrigal would be a phenomenal result but a win at home is a must to qualify.

I would at least expect us to finish above Aalborg so Europe after Christmas is nice biggrin.gif
