I've just finished reading an article on Celtic Quick News, that makes interesting reading, both for those with a liking for numbers and those who like a bit of GIRFUY-manship towards Sauron's hordes from Mordor.
To business then:
Dick Advocaat, at a time immediately preceeding a crash in the transfer market caused by clubs insecurity regarding the Bosman effect, decided in his wisdom to spend over £80m in little over 3 years. Rangers have toiled to claw that money back since the end of his tenure and are now playing catch-up to a team that appears to be utterly wiping the board with them in terms of finance and indeed shiny cup things since the turn of the century.
In contrast to this mighty spendathon as well as the spendathon that has continued to produce sporadic triumphs on the park, the big club from across the city, Elrond the Wise's fair elves if you will, have spent less than £75m on player acquisitions since the wee bunneted fella left for a few rounds of golf.
Six championships in the past 8 seasons is remarkable when you consider that during that period Rangers have outspent Celtic by a fair margin, including a whopping £28m spend in one season to witness the utter capitulation that was season 2000-01.
Anyway, congrats to The Little General and others.
Lol.
