Right, not sure how easy this would be to find out, but does anyone know of a team where the manager has handed the captain's armband to a new signing?

The reason I ask is because (John) Potter has been given the armband at St.Mirren, yet someone has suggested (Jack) Ross, who has been the captain of Falkirk in the past. However I can't think of any new signing that has ever been given the armband upon joining.

I can't imagine there are stats available for this, so I'm guessing it's going to have to be from the collective memory of the P&B masses.

buddie06smfc, has mentioned that Rob Jones was made a captain in his first season. Which is close. Although my question is related to new purchases immediately being given the armband.

Lee Carsley!

Lee Carsley!

For Birmingham?

Actually I think you are right! laugh.gif

Well done, you obviously have too much time on your hands.

Now... has there been a Scottish one? wink.gif

Tod Lumsden at Raith, he was made captain after signing at the start of the 05/06 season smile.gif

Interesting. Thanks.

More high profile one this time, what about Terry Butcher?

Another obscure one for you.

Jim Mercer was given the captaincy at Albion Rovers immediately on signing for us in 2002. In hindsight, a railway sleeper would have had more of an effect and would probably have moved around more than Jim as well.

Not sure whether it qualifies, but as mentioned on the other thread Greg Denham was handed the captain's armband on his competitive debut for us in the League Cup v Morton at Cappielow in 2002. He went off injured at half time laugh.gif

This article confirms he was captain: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn41...08/ai_n12578449

The ever reliable Mirren MAD site wink.gif confirms it was his first game, indeed his only game in the first half of the season - http://www.saintmirren-mad.co.uk/news/load...2&id=150997

Paul McHale was given the armband after he joined in 2005.

Stuart Kettlewell was appointed team captain before our first game of the season, after signing in the summer. Does he count, as he wasn't appointed captain immediatley?
The Minertaur
Think Sandy Hodge has been captain for Cowden this season after signing for us in the summer
PTFC27
I'm sure Jimmy Gibson was made captain when he signed for us in 04/05 season.
Ever the Optimist
It's happened at least the last two seasons for us.

Murray Henderson was given the captains armband by Neil Watt in season 07-08 and this season Chris Aitken has been made captain by Brian Reid
Whistle Blower
Campbell Fraser was made captain of Raith Rovers on his debut in 1987, a position he held until he was pushed out the door by Jimmy Nicholl.

Did Robbie Savage not get the Armband straight away after joining Derby?
Skyline Drifter
I'm almost certain Jim Thomson was made captain immediately on re-joining us from Arbroath at the start of the 2001-02 season. He was certainly captain at the end of the season when we lifted the title, pretty sure he was from the word go.

Wasn't his first spell with us though and he'd been captain in his previous spell so not exactly the same.

Simon Stainrod was captain of Falkirk the season he joined. Whether he was made captain immediately I'm not sure......
Radford
Kevin James was made captain of St Johnstone when he joined, much to the apparent displeasure of David "The Davester" Hannah. In fact, he would have been made captain as well upon signing for the club.
Mr. Brightside
Phil O'Donnell might have got it the first season he returned
I am not sure though
Although I suspect he may have got it the following season because Scott Leitch was still captain, I am not sure though
Russ.
Not in Scotland however Kevin Nicholls signed back for Luton the other day and was appointed captain straight away.

Mario Melchiott for Wigan! wink.gif biggrin.gif
Naught A Chance
Am not 100% but i think Gordon Lennon got it upon signing for us,hopefully someone else can comfirm this

What about Ferguson upon his return to Ibrox?

Nah, Ricksen was the captain right through till the end of the season even though Fergie came back in January.

Our captain's armband was taken off Greacan last season and given to newly-signed McGuffie (or was it Jenkins?).
Kendawg
Paul Murray was given the captaincy armband for Gretna last season.
Fudge
I think Steven Ferguson was given the armband at Stenhousemuir when he signed last summer.
Andyboy
Stuart Kettlewell went from captain at Queen's to captain at Clyde, when he signed for them in the summer.
King Kebab
Last Season Steven Tweed was given the Captain's Armband before the ink was dry on his contract and even before he got his jacket of to see if his strip was going to fit him!!!
