And that's all he's missed out on. He's got pretty much his preferred option for every other position and knows the left back he wants but it's a case of reaching an agreement as he is contracted to his current club for a few more months.
There must be some concern that Rae wanted to take his full squad to Malta but missed out on several players and is now hoping that trialists prove up to the mark? At the end of May, Dangerous Dave was spouting off about having three or four great signings in before the month was out. That never materialised whatsoever.
Niz made the point about Dasovic and Sekerlioglu but we (presumably) watched them for several months before adding them to the squad. Pozniak has landed up in Dundee with his boots and picked up a contract.
When you have competition from the likes of Leeds United for an intended target, any first division team in Scotland is hardly going to provide too much of a resistance are they?
Chris Innes was persuaded by money and location.
The others were merely speculation: Gary Holt, Charlie Miller, Stewart Kean, Steve Lovell.......
The fact, St. Johnstone signed most of their intended targets isn't as significant as you are making out.
We successfully signed Mark Gilhaney, Robert Douglas, Colin Cameron, Eric Paton, Craig McKeown, and Darren Young, as well as persuading Mikael Antoine-Curier to sign a 3 year deal despite strong interest from other clubs - players who all had options, but choose Dundee.
You win some, you loose some.
I'm really happy with the way our squad is looking. We have an endless injury list with so many first team players out, but we can still go to tricky places and grind out results.
