Genuine answer or what I personally think they should be paid???

Que a ramble by myself!....

I have a theory and I think if this was brought into football then referee's wouldn't be as sh*t at times! Referee's shouldn't get paid until after the game. There should be a couple of people from the SFA that watch the game and if the ref makes say 3 major mistakes he shouldn't get paid, or he should be at least deducted a little bit from his wage!

A little extreme possibly, but if a dentist, nurse, doctor, surgeon etc. made a cock up they'd get sued never mind a wage deduction!

I guarantee if something like this was brought in Ref's would quickly stop making f*ck ups in games mad.gif .

Or, about £400 laugh.gif

They're worth £800 a game at the very least.I once referee'd a womens five a side match and that was scary never mind a professional football match. The concentration, effort, pressure and responsibility must be immense.

SFL refs are SPL too lol

No way. They know what they are getting themselves into. Ignorance is not an excuse. If a ref does 25 matches a season then that would be around 20K. You have to be kidding? Just remember most of them will have mon-fri jobs as well. £800 is a joke, £200 would be sufficient if not too much. They make numerous mistakes and if they are getting paid all that money they shouldn't be making simple mistakes which some of them do.

I think he meant what Ref's refereeing 1st, 2nd and 3rd division matches should be paid.

They do take some amount of stick so maybe £300 as they also earn away from football.
Conversely, you could also say that some SFL players are over-paid (Tam McManus certainly was for us).

Have a go yourself and then tell me they're not worth it.A ref can only do his best.

Players are over paid definately but that's a different subject!

They aren't. It's as simple as that. They know they are going to recieve stick no matter what the decision, but they can't go into a game and take every comment they hear personally. £800 is a joke for 90 minutes work!

Its not 90 minutes work though is it? I would imagine they have to be at a ground some time before kick off I doubt they leave at 5 o'clock either. Add the travelling time onto that and I'd be surprised if any ref has any time to do anything on a Saturday.

Then theres the time spent training, writing match reports, studying etc etc etc

If paying the refs more raises the standard and encourages more people to take it up then surely its a good thing.

I wouldn't begrudge them £800 per week if it was a full time job. As it is, I'd be telling them to piss right off. Not one of them is worth that. The standard of Scottish officiating these days is abysmal. That Morag Pirie woman who runs the line in the SFL and is clearly only there so the league can say they're an equal opportunities employer doesn't seem to have the faintest idea what she's doing. And even more disgusting and infuriating than that is the fact that she's ugly as f**k!

One day's work then, still doesn't account to £800.

Chris Boyle is worthy of a flaming bag of dug shite on his doorstep and that's about it. mad.gif

I'd say £5.60 per hour and 40 Lambert and Butler would be fair recompense for their "efforts" at this level.

I doubt they train, study and write their match reports on the same day as the match. Then theres the midweek games too.

Its obviously not a full time job, but to say its just a days work is a bit too simplistic, IMO.

There's so much garbage talked about referees, much of the time by people who don't have a clue about it. At times at games it gets embarrasing being beside folk who shout the awfiest pish at referees, despite the fact that they continue to demonstrate that their own knowledge of the rules is pretty minimal. I really really can't stand this attitude that so many fans seem to have that 'all refs are murder, all the time' - it's something that simply isn't true.

I think they deserve a decent amount of money for refereeing games in the country's top league, although I have to say that £500 seems enough and that I can't really see any need for it to be significantly more than that. I'm pretty sure that the money isn't the main thing for most guys who take up refereeing, otherwise it's unlikely they'd be prepared to spend a few years doing the under 13s and amateurs for £15 a game, to take abuse that is more personal and more easily heard.

Tricky to say how much, probably about £250-£350. Let's face it, these guys love it. Mixing with footballers, after dinner speaking, shagging and drinking. Plus a bit of spare cash!!

The question realy is, should the ref get the same for reffing Rangers v Celtic as Clyde v Livi? I would have to say yes. If you made it two tier then the refs would get crapper than they already are. sad.gif

Bollox they should.

Whilst Rangers' performance last night might suggest otherwise, a game that the top end of the SPL will obviously be played at a far faster tempo then that of a mid-table (being generous here tongue.gif ) first division match.

Refs for top games will have to be fitter and show a greater speed of decision making then their colleagues down the leagues. It's only fair that better referees are better paid.
north_west_L52
I think there worth alot more than they get;

A) They amount of abuse they get fans

cool.gif the amount of abuse they get from players

also noticed on saturday when we were playing partick that like 5 times the partick fans were giving him abuse for not giving them a free kick etc etc and every time i though f**k sake sit down that was never a free kick

but then again i done it about 5 times and realised that none of them were probly free kicks!!!

we do giv them a hard time, the one thing i would say is - leave the ref alone. . . . .

GIVE THE LINESMAN THE ABUSE!!!
Lambie's Pigeon Feed
Give them 2 bob and a balloon.

They are probably worth about £200-£300 a game at this level. Apart from Chris Boyle who should never referee again! mad.gif

Not at all. Rangers vs Celtic is much more high pressure than a Clyde vs Livi game. If its made two tier then the refs lower down would have to perform better to get selected for the bigger games and get paid more so i don't think they would get worse.
