Kilbowie's Finest
Hope that everyone doesn't mind me posting this topic but as Bankies were a first division side for most of the 1980s and 1990s I wondered who you thought were the best players that you had seen playing against your team in the first division ?

During the early 90s i always admired guys like :
Morten Weighorst and Neil McCann at Dundee
Simon Stainrod at Falkirk
Henry Templeton and John Sludden at Ayr United
George McCluskey and Paul McDonald at Hamilton
Craig Brewster at Forfar
Alan Lawrence Stevie Gray and Andy Smith at Airdrie
Colin Cameron Jimmy Nicholl David Narey and Gordon Dalziel at Raith Rovers
Alan Moore Roddy Grant and Paul Cherry at St Johnstone

My favourite players at Bankies during this period were the likes of John Henry John Davies and the legendary Ken Eadie

against?
probably Fernandez when he was at Airdrie...he was even better for us though!
stuart.
Janne Lindberg was a superb player. Robbie Winters and Stephen Pressley seemed good too along with Christian Dailly, actually, was Dailly in that United team?

That Sekerlioglu always impressed me and George O Boyle too.

Also Jim McIntyre, great player him.

Juan Ramon Escalas was superb for us in the first couple of months for us in season 04/05. He showed some outrageous pieces of skill at times and looked far too good for the Division. Unfortunately he never seemed to be able to adapt to the winter weather and his mother died as well which totally finished him off. It was a real shame as he was one of the most entertaining players i've ever seen in Red and Yellow.

I will always remember him for his cracking goals against Airdrie at New Broomfield and against Queen Of The South at Firhill.

Chic Charnley must be up there with the best of them as the most talented? I loved Morten Weighorst too!

Michel Pageu (spelling) in the goal, Dusan Vrto, Jim Duffy, Billy Dodds, Jim Leighton all class players. Derek ferguson (was Dundee in the first division when he played on loan?) As you can see, my picks are all Dundee players (sorry), but that's the one's who stick out from watching them in the 90's.

We only played one season in the first but Billy McKinlay in his last game for United, got a hat trick including 2 belters, always was a favourite player of mine then, thought he was class.

stuart.
Jim Bett too.

The First Division used to be amazing, it is so inferior nowadays yet we are paying so much more for it.

Strangely the first division players that left to go on to bigger things with 6 figure sums being cashed never really did it against Falkirk......the other ones I liked then played for us were big flops....Owen Coyle I didnt rate till he signed for us

Stevie Logan- superb at Meadowbank/awful with us
John Martin
Shaun Dennis
Nacho Novo- Raith
Didier Agathe - Raith
Davie Irons
Willie McGuire
John Flood

Its Sunday and off the top of the head that will do, there are many more tho......

Not one to be biased but Janne Lindberg.

I never have and never will see a player of his quality in a Morton jersey again.
king of spain
Scott Paterson when at Thistle was unbelieveable for us.Seem to remember people touting him for a call up to the Scotland squad!
Reynard
Davie Cooper, Paul Lambert, Frank McGarvey.

Theres been a lot of good players down the years. Not so many recently.
