Before anyone thinks i'm turning into a Morton fan i need to start with the following disclaimer:
THIS IS NOT A W**KFEST OVER CROWDS THREAD. THIS IS MORE OF AN OBSERVATION. POSTERS DO SO AT THEIR OWN RISK.
In time-honoured PnB fashion i am going to be hypocritical on this one and say i was not at the game yesterday due to my best mates wedding clashing with the season curtain-raiser. I was however disappointed by the paltry crowd that made its way to McD yesterday.
Perhaps i was under the influence of the usual pre-season hype but i would have expected there to have been a bigger crowd on Saturday especially when you check the attendances at the other Div1 games. Ok, holidays/weddings etc. may have influenced the gate but this would have affected every game.
What sort of support did Livi take? I thought the excitement of La Revolucion under Signor Landi would have sparked a decent travelling support into action. On account of this the home support must have been pretty bad if only 2600 odd hardy souls braved the summer conditions. Was this the case?

Don't know what the livi crowd was like bt to be honest livi dont usualy bring a large travelling support (probably the worst in the league in my opinion) so i would say close to the 2100/2200 were saints fans.

Even by St Johnstone's standards, that's a fairly pathetic attendance for a warm opening day. More so considering the signings made/positive vibes/promotion favourites-tag. Quite shocking actually.
But mildly amusing.

I would imagine that the actual gate would be close to what our average would be which like you said was pretty low given the combined factors that you mentioned.
It doesn't make much difference to us really i was just trying to get my head round it.

400 or so from Livi I'd venture.
It was a piss poor attendance, but it's really not a surprise. We don't have a great support in terms of numbers. It's sitting at a base level at the moment and it's not going to improve 'til some of the fair weather fans come back. That's not going to happen 'til we start to win regularly and convincingly. Such is life.
Plus, there's lots to do on the farm at the moment.

I just realised there is a thread about this on WAP. I'm not going to lose any sleep about it but i just thought it was an interesting number in comparison with the other gates yesterday.

I can't remember an away support as large as that up in recent seasons. There was a sizeable home support as well, mainly due to the novelty of being back in the First. I would say that you had about 8-900 up, 1200 would be exaggerating slightly.
The worst thing about Victoria Park is you can hardly ever hear each support sing. The sound doesn't travel well.

Likewise the only Dundee singing I heard was in the Mallard! I assume that there was alot of singing by the Dundee fans but it just doesnt travel across the pitch well. There was quite alot of people singing when occasionally we burst into song. We heard when you scored though.

We were singing near-enough non-stop, save for a few spells of breath-catching!
The noise probably just escaped up into the ether. That's the problem with open-terracing.

A covered stadium doesn't allow for a good atmosphere in itself. It needs to be of a certain design, and invariably this "design" results in a damn good stadium.

I thought it was a pretty piss poor Saints support for the start of the season actually. In terms of numbers and noise. It was hard for me to comment on our support in terms of size because I was stuck at the far end but I thought we brought along a not bad number (for us anyway).

I think that has been obvious for several months, if not longer.
The Saintees will have a field day on Tuesday, ramshackle terrace, poor home support. They'll be champing at the bit to get home and tell everyone on p&b all about how terrible it is down in those lower leagues.

It's a silly exaggeration. The crowd was close to 2,700 and with around 300 away fans that leaves about 2,400 home fans. In comparison to our first home game last season which pulled an astounding attendance of 2,200 in which I think Stirling brought more than Livi did yesterday, I'd definitely say that yesterdays crowd wasn't 'piss poor'. I maybe expected a tad more given it was the first game of the season but the Perth show is a massive crowd puller and indeed was extremely busy when I was in town earlier in the day. Not being as much as someone would expect for the opening game doesn't make a crowd 'piss poor'.

I'd say 2400 is a piss poor crowd, albeit your attendances are known to be on the smaller side but you ought to attract gloryhunters, interested neutrals and even the more stubborn armchair fan for the first game of the season, particularly given new signings and expectations of success.
