Need some good pub recommendations for Saturday please. biggrin.gif

If thon sports pub is still open, we'll likely head there, as it's served us well in recent years, but I heard rumblings that hotel across the road has been converted into a normal pub? Is this true? Is it worth heading there.

Oh, and please don't recommend the 'Stables' again, we're Albion fans, not Forfar fans. wink.gif

We always go to The Dalhousie on the main road. It always welcomes us, doesn't mind a bit of singing and has some good beers and ciders, plus a dart board if you're feeling frisky.

No doubt some troglydite Brechiner will ridicule this suggestion based on nothing more than jealousy at my regulation amount of fingers and toes.

Is that the one that's basically a guy's living room masquerading as a bar?

Last time we were there it was full of red cheeked men with big sideburns.

And Bert Paton having his dinner.

Stables is closed, but is supposedly re-opening in September I think.

If you're after a good pub to watch the football on TV before the game, try Hudsons. It has several widescreen TVs, Setanta etc and is big enough to host even Stirling's massive travelling support. biggrin.gif

It's a bit more expensive, but it's worth it for the better 'atmosphere'.

Aye, so where is it then?

And is the Sports bar still open? Or is that what it's called now?

C'mon son, you need to do better than this.
'Steve
Hudsons is the best place to go before the game, and just a few minutes walk from the Glebe.

Aah right, that's the one across from where THE SPORTS BAR* was. Looks kinda posh for our unruly lot!!

*I'm writing this bit in capitals so people might actually answer if it's still open or not. tongue.gif

It was turned into a normal pub before it was closed down. It has now re-opened and is now operating as an indian restaraunt/bar.

Hudsons is just next door to the Northern Hotel that is pictured on the front of that website, it's owned by the same people like.

I miss the days of 'Jollys' with the infamous Aunty Ivy. laugh.gif

Trust me Hudson's isn't as posh as it looks. It may look posh but the people that drink in it certainly aren't. Our lot get pished there most Saturday nights, it's one of the few Brechin pubs worth going to.

laugh.gif Does 'clean' really translate to 'posh' in Scotland?

Christ on a bike; not heard that in years.

As for Jolly's...

as a young lad, I mind finishing a double shift in the Cannery and heading up to Jolly's (via Ken's chipper) for my pre-ordered double-pint many, many, many (this could take a while), many, many, many years ago.

Oooh, I said chipper. sad.gif
Beren
Oh, btw, I'll be in Hudsons 1.30ish tomorrow: Big fat fucker with freshly shaven head and a Harry Potter stylee scar on forehead. Just think 'Celtic fan on a day trip'...

...Which isn't spectacularly far from the truth sad.gif

If Your after a decent pub you want to head to the City Royal at the Bottom of City Road. only 5 mins from ground.

Aye But worth it for a decent pint !!!!! tongue.gif
'Steve
Why on earth would you go past the likes of the Dally and Hudsons to go to the City Royal? laugh.gif

For what it's worth I was in Hudsons last night and the tidy Polish barmaid was on! So Stirling fans might be out of luck this afternoon. wink.gif laugh.gif

The 'tidy polish barmaid' is apparently the town bike.
