Hello
I'm driving down to Ayr from Dundee on saturday and was wondering if there's anything I need to know about on the roads.
Are there any roadworks on the M80 / M8 (not decided which to take yet) or the A77.
According to the AA it should take 2 1/2 hours. Is this accurate?
thanks in advance

Average speed cameras on the 77 after the Symington turn off thats now a 50, back up to 70 after the Monkton roundabout.
2 1/2 hours sounds about right from Dundee.
I can give lifts from my house to the ground for £2.50

Yes, but if you have a better suggestion to travel from Haddington to Ayr for a guy with a youg-persons railcard who can't drive I would like to hear it

M80 / M8
I've started taking the M73 - M74 and cutting across the A725 to the M77.
When both roads are empty going through Glasgow City Centre is quicker. When it backs up on Saturday afternoon, the safer route can be to avoid it and a potential nightmare.

There are road works on the M77 just after the M8 turn off, tail backs on the M8 today. If the road works are still there on Saturday you'd be better off going by East Kilbride.

I got £12 return to Glasgow QS from Dundee and it's about £8-£10 for a return from Central.
Edited to add - those are full adult prices, they dictate which trains I can use and they were booked on the National Express website.

Jul 29 2008, 17:59
Nope, no Railcard. The trick is to never ever book these journeys as a whole or you get robbed. I usually spend 5 minutes looking at the different permutations a journey could take. For e.g. a return from Dundee to Perth, then a Return from Perth to Glasgow will save a few quid than the Dundee - Glasgow return. The same applies all over the country.
Plus, if you book a week or two in advance the savings are stupid. All that is required is that you are prepared to get on the specified train. As long as I'm at the ground for three, the rest of the day can be taken up drinking, getting breakfast etc.

I'm aware of the Perth/Dundee thing.
A normal return is around £39 but if you get Dundee-Perth Perth-Glasgow returns it's around £30.
Your prices are wildly cheap though!

Think I've settled on my route now. A80 then use M73/M74 to go via E Kilbride to meet up with M77 south of Glasgow.
While I'm in the mood for asking for info what's the parking like around Somerset Park. Is it best to park at the race course and walk or is there something nearer. I can see waste ground (google earth is so cool) along from the stadium on Somerset Road - is that where everyone parks?
thanks again

The waste ground is now part of a building site, on street parking in the streets around the ground is usually ok.

Haha, yes, we do but we're just kinda struggling. As always. Our squad is a fucking disgrace. I think i'll probably make it, and my mate is gonna come play aswell. I'm pretty sure that's 11, and we have a guy who has an even more gammy knee than me struggling.
We could have anything between 10 and 14, depending on how numbers go. Even if we do have 10, we've come to the decision that we're still travelling to play 10 on 11.
Forgot to ask you where about you play?
