Stanic still has the technique and positional sense but he lacked pace last season: not sure if the drop in level will compensate for that.

For us, Mark 'Sparky' Campbell. Didn't look out of place against Rangers. Neither did any of our backline, though. And one of them came from Edinburgh Uni!

Jul 28 2008, 23:11
Johnny Smart and Steven Tweed will take a bit of beating as a centre back pairing. Paul Nugent has looked excellent in every game I've seen him in too. It looks like Dougie Cameron wil stay at left back for us and Stanic will play in midfield.

City's John Ward and Davie White are both cracking centre halves at this level, as Cowdenbeath fans will know.
We're agreed then, that we all have fantastic defences.
Especially East Fife, who's defence is so good that it's also they're midfield.
Cracking
I'm glad Mark Campbell is finally getting recognition from the Rovers support, he's been our most consistent player over the last few seasons. I honestly think he's wasted the best years of his career with us, he could do much better.
So obviously I'd be biased and say Campbell! But this is the sort of thing that every fan of every team will inevitably put one of their own in for.

I honestly cannae wait to see him against us in September.
Somtimes you get a bit worried about East Fife and the genrally impressive squad they're assmebling, but then from time to time they'll remind you that Jon Smart is their best player and you realise things can't be that bad.

I'm not sure if he's neccesarly our best player. He's the type of player that fans love and that's why he's so popular. Steven Tweed made a big difference to his game last season I think and between the two of them very few mistakes were made over the course of the season.
Raith fans obviously don't rate him from his time there but it's very clear he's improved since then.

Yes fair comment, and I didn't mean that as a wind-up. He was at Raith at a difficult time as well as being inexperienced himself, and he's clearly doing much better now.

I've seen him at 1st Division level and he's too slow for up there.Never loses a thing in the air but his lack of pace and the fact an oil tanker can turn quicker is exposed to easily at a higher level.
Martyn is a better player but because he is always injured he hasn't got anywhere in the game. He's not got the pace either though.

Rangers hardly play the most attacking football mate

and anyway, smarty looked a home against rangers last year. Even tho we did ship 4 goals.

Best defender is probably Mark Campbell.

No offence but that big sodding lob he sent back towards his own keeper when under no pressure in the friendly against Forfar is not the sign of an improved John Smart.

In all seriousness, you are right and people are looking far too much into our friendlies. If we're top after the first two months then i'll look into players performances.
