I think that out of the saints youth players, Steven Doris has defo got what it takes to cope in the 1st division

But does any of your teams have useful youth players
Or ones you believe will become big stars biggrin.gif

Young striker Graeme Eaglesham looks a prospect. Very quick and scored alot of goals for u19's last season.

We have none at all.

A sad state of affairs for a club that brought through so many quality players in the past. sad.gif

Darren McGeough is probably our best young player, although we didn't bring him through as he was signed from Celtic's youth academy.

Griffiths, Jacobs, Torrance, Davidson, Sinclair, Malone, MacDonald and maybe Smith all have what it takes to play this season IMO

You're not exactly in a position to be picky though.

Iain Williamson, Scott McBride, Stuart Dearden and Paul Willis, Nicky Phinn, Jordan White, Harry McGregor and Greg Paterson.

Half the first team squad there!
Captain Tash
Nicky Phinn will make his name this season. By far the best of all our young players

Graeme Girvan looks our best prospect so hopefully he will be given a few games at right-back. Dont know if he is staying or not though as he has had trials at Bolton, Celtic and Newcastle.

We have a few who have played in Pre-season games that could play a part next season.

Craig Forsyth looks like a very good prospect at left-back and Kevin Milne is a promising striker although his chances of making the breakthrough this season look limited with MAC, McMenamin, Davidson and Deasley ahead of him. Livi's youth team last season was the best I saw and have a number of decent prospects.

Roddy MacLennan looks to be a decent prospect but none of the other players look like they have what it takes. Possibly David McGowan in a few years too.

However I was very disappointed by the two players promoted from the youth team, Connolly and Murch. They were very poor today v Glencairn, we had no attacking threat until they went off.

Could you really say that with a straight face?

Roddy, given time on the ball and a wee bit of space, can weave pretty patterns through teams; opening up space and creating opportunities for others. Much like his older brother. He won't be afforded such luxuries (time & space) in the competitive first division environment though. Another thing the MacLennans share is a scrawny physique, Roddy even more so. It doesn't bode well for their chances of really making the cut, so to speak. I hope they can defy the odds obviously.

Murch is very much the opposite; fairly sturdy in build and standing roughly six foot he's able & willing to put himself about, although he's not got the technical ability and intelligence R&R have.

McCole & Connolly, having only saw them down in Lynn & Yarm (Connolly again today), i.e. limited appearances in friendlies, I can't really say? Brown rates both highly though, I know that much. Encouraging?

As for Connolly, perhaps one of the better prospects, he was inconvenienced today playing on his bad foot the majority of the time (ditto Roddy). He had to come inside into a busy midfield where Rutherglen denied him any incisive opportunity. In my heart of hearts I really don't see any of the current crop emulating the success of e.g. Bryson sadly. Ruari gives cause for the most hope.

Craig Forsyth for Dundee. He hopefully will get a run in the squad next season for Dundee.f.c

Saints have a 16-year-old striker Stephen Reynolds, who we've signed from Gleniffer Thistle in Paisley. He made a few appearances for our reserves towards the tail end of last season and also got a couple of runs for the first team in closed doors games last week. He scored around 80 goals for his boy's club last season and was generally a standout for them, with Saints beating off competition from SPL clubs to get him. I've seen him in action a couple of times and for his age, he looks a really good player. Think he's a cousin or something of Jim McAllister at Morton.

Of the older guys, Jackson and Moon made the breakthrough last season and as mentioned by the OP, Steven Doris is the only other one on the fringes of things. He had a good loan spell at Montrose last season.

Eaglesham will get a look in upfront with Buchanan likely to miss a good bit of playing time and the rest being crap. Good player, but nowhere near the finished article though and I think we should seriously consider sending him out on loan for a full year, not sure it will happen though with such a small squad.
