As above, former Morton midfielder has singed a deal with Airdrie. A ball-winning midfielder is exactly the sort of player we need. Shame he´s about 3´ 2"...

Not good enough for this level and was badly found out. One of the players dropped during our launch for survival at the end of the season.
Might surprise us this season, but I won't hold my breath.

Did he not call Morton fans "morons" on Jamie Stevenson's bebo page?
Glad he has signed for a first division team and we can give him a nice welcome back.

Was a good player for us at second division level, so if he's signed a 2 year deal he'll do ok in 09/10

Seriously though, as DomDom says above, he was found out at division 1 level last season. His inability to find a team-mate with a pass is infuriating at times, although he never hides from play and is always looking for the ball which is a bonus. Gets stuck in as well, but for a defensive midfielder he has a tendancy to go wandering, leaving big gaps in the middle.
Would be surprised if he was anything other than average at best for you.

He's probably in good company.

I'm glad he signed for a 1st Division team as well. If he plays in the first team, it'd make our job easier.

Sounds good...we've been missing a terrier to do the nasty stuff....not to bothered about his passing as he will only have to offload 5 yards to wee kev......I find it hard to believe he cannot sit in front of a back four without going a wandering.

As long as his instructions are to win the ball then pass it 5 yards to K Mac, surely he can't be that bad?
Edit: I hadn't seen RB's post when I typed that. Who needs a manager when we've such bright tactical minds in the stands?

why do you think we conceded so many goals? we used to blame it all on our defenders until we realised when Erik Paartalu came that they'd been getting absolutely no cover at all, and that was due to Mclaughlin being in the right mid position while the oppositions midfield is running straight through the centre.
He's not even good at the nasty stuff, he's too lightweight to be good at the nasty stuff. He just runs about trying to play passes that he doesn't have the ability to play. Also NEVER let him near free kicks or corners, he seems to think he's good at them but we literally did not score from a corner all season last year and it was all down to him, and his floating free kicks right into the keepers arms or hitting the first man are infuriating.
Glad he'll be playing against us this year.

He's having you on. Saying he's a good free kick hitter goes beyond joking and into liar territory.
He DOES have a solid shot from outside the box sometimes, so could be useful hanging around the box at corners. That's about all I can say that's positive.

It has to be approximately 40 yards out though otherwise it'll end up outside the ground.
Terrible player, that I'd rather have Keenan playing than. And any Morton fan will know my thoughts on V1's footballing ability.

He's a trier but without a lot of skill in any department and his distribution will drive you up the wall. Hard enough worker who won't hide but distinctly average in a pretty poor way.
ps 5 yard passes are well beyond his capabilities.
he will shoot, and shoot, and shoot from range. hits the target one in ten times

Jul 17 2008, 12:02
Airdrie fans will understand after seeing him play a few times.
His 5 yard passes to the opposition were that of true quality and on occassions his backwards pass to the opposing forwards were that of Kaka quality. He does a lot of running and to his credit he never hides, however you'll probably wish he did. His freekicks are shocking and his corners are far worse.
He will score the occassional screamer, maybe 3 out of 150 shots.

Was happy to see him punted at the end of last season. Not good enough for this division.
I reckon he will do a job as a squad player. If we sign the big centre half from last night then i would imagine it would be mckenna and kmac in the middle with mckenna covering the defence as last night. He came on for the last ten minutes or something and just sat in front the defence and broke the limited attacks up. looked fine. If eh sticks to that then he will do no bad (i can always be proven wrong)

No he's not: he's a mediocre player, fitted in well in the 2nd Division side but struggled with the step up, although he was rarely given much support from our other central midfielders in doing the dirty work.
To be honest, everyone said russell was rubbish blah blah blah. Look where that got us. And yes i know that was the second division but time will tell. Same with roberts at airdrie. We all berated him then he went to thistle and did very well.

McLaughlin was a strange player. Rated by many Livi and Morton fans, though tbh I could never work out why. Rainer Bonhoff had him as one of the 10 most promising Scottish youngsters in an article he did about 3 yrs ago.
For a time I actually wondered if I was missing something, but I'm pretty sure I wasn't (and didn't).

Scott McLaughlin is an honest player who will try hard and has a certain amount of talent - enough to be a decent player in the second division but not enough for the first. He's a defensive midfielder who does'nt give enough cover to his defence and can't pass water!! For some reason he insists on taking free kicks when he has absolutely no skill at putting the ball anywhere near the oppositions danger area.
He does do a lot of work though and will break up play for others to pick up. If you have other decent midfielders who can pick up the breaks he creates, he might do something for you but thats a long shot tbh..
DomDom
Jul 18 2008, 09:47
For those who don't like his long shots, I agree when he's making the chance himself. He can usually do a cracker when he's being laid off. It's not something that happens often, but he had some decent cracks at goal last season. All of them coming from a lay off.

As i think just about everybody has said,he was decent enough in the second division but has failed miserably to perform in the first.
On occasion you might get a stunning long range finish from him, usually off the under side of tha bar.Asides that,i won't even start on the simple fact he's a fucking dick.
