Okay then, the teams are now getting a squad together and playing a few games. Obviously you will be happy enough that your team will be okay, but who do you think have not strengthened enough?

Who is for the drop and the play-off spot?

Difficult to see Airdrie doing anythign but struggling.
They'll be bottom, Livi in the play-offs.

Airdrie, Clyde, Ross County and Morton all down the bottom play offs zone, i'll go for Airdrie to be relegated. Don't think we'll be there for a change this season. cool.gif

I get the argument, but we've signed an amatuer player(Paton), and are a better side for it.

That is true but we were not in the playoffs last season, they were and they think there better from signing a couple of players from worse off teams.

I dont think we are much better than last season, i think Maxwell will provide us with some stability at the back and Paton is a wee whippet, but appart from that we haven't reallt changed.

I do think this is the most encouraging start to a season we have had in a long time! But you never know , maybe we need the doom and gloom of a shite pre season to stay up! But nevermind , I think we will be mid table this year as yes we do have a better team IMO.

Are you sure? I think Queens have been favourites to go down most years.
Radford
I'd have gone with the Airdrie and Livingston combination up until yesterday. I'm not a massive fan of Chris Innes but along with McPake and Mackay, it should ensure Livi are hard to beat at least. Think it could now be quite tight with only Dundee, Queen of the South and Saints looking liking having squads that are too rounded and complete to go down. A few sides either have just one or source of goals or even no source of goals and that will make things difficult for them.

Other than last season we've not been in the relegation fight since we got promoted to the 1st division. We've been mid table or higher until last year. Hardly the inevitable is it? rolleyes.gif

Seriously, I wouldn't want to predict. Although last season was probably expected (Stirling straight down with Morton and Clyde fighting for 8th), this time is a bit less obvious I feel.

I think its looking like a very tight league and there will be not that many points between 3rd/4th and 8th/9th. St Johnstone and Dundee for me are looking a bit stronger than the rest with Saintees having the best squad. Airdrie look to me to be the only team appearing to be well behind the rest.

So for me its Airdrie going down and perm any 1 from about six for the play off spot. A lot of teams are making themselves hard to beat and its going to take serious talent to rack up the wins.

This is a common myth amongst Queens fans which seems to be shared by Clyde Newcomer regarding his own team.

Although we have until recently always been fairly long odds to win the league, this doesn't automatically make you favourites for the drop, I'm not even sure if the main bookies list these prices. Off the top of my head, in previous years I'm sure the likes of Brechin, Airdrie, and Stirling, along with ourselves and Clyde have been "least favourites" to win the league. I can't think of a time when any team had this "crown" for more than two consecutive seasons though.

What do the bookies know anyway, they think Dundee will win the league this year! biggrin.gif

Airdrie to finish bottom and practically anyone could fnish 9th dependant upon injuries.

I pretty much agree with all of that.
I have a good feeling about next season, i feel we have replaced players with better and hungrier players than we had last season, we will have more attacking options and we will also have more drive from midfield, something that was very evidently missing last season.
I don't share the same optimism a lot of people have for Ross Co., i feel they could struggle next season. Livi are a team i am not sure about, who knows, they may be the suprise package next season or they might be dreadfull, only time will tell.
EdinburghLivi
Airdrie bottom and Morton in the play-offs. Airdrie because they haven't strengthed enough on a team that couldn't win promotion from the 2nd division last year and Morton because they've replaced their guff players with similar skill players. I'm pretty sure Wake will not continue the form that helped them avoid the play-offs last year.

I think we should be well clear of the bottom despite what some fans think on here. We have strengthed the squad from what we have seen in the first friendly (bar Dorrans and Snodgrass obviously) and I predict we'll finish 5/6th.

Edit:- Changing Friendlies from plural to singular.

That's another of those common misconceptions. I think in the now 7 season we've been listed at this level we have only once been favourites to go down (the season after the great escape when there was no obviously weak side in the division). We've also been second favourites to be relegated at least once. We're perennially under-estimated (except this season) but it's usually by sticking us 7th or 8th.

I stand corrected gents.

I think on reflection you are both correct on this, but we were certainly thought of candidates for being in a relegation fight most seasons. Maybe it is my recollections of the newspaper 'pundits' predictions that I was thinking of. Certainly most fans on football forums had a higher regard for where they thought we would finish.

I think that Saints, Dundee and Dunfermline are definately safe! I don't want to say QoS are definately safe as I usually jinx things in the wrong direction!!!

I would like to say Livi will definately safe but like I said in another post Livi are either going to take off like Mileson's Gr£tna or flop like Anelka's Rovers! So for me I don't want to judge.

I think Partick should be safe and (not going by last seasons head-to-heads as I though they were woeful) I think they could actually be dark horses next year and possibly sneak into top 3/4.

Morton,County,Clyde and Airdrie may have to battle it out! I'm not going to say Airdrie are dead cert's for the drop because QoS have been ruled out a few times before a ball has been kicked and have proved everyone wrong, so Airdrie may well do the same thing. County are beginning to sound overrated IMO and I think unless they have a strong home record they may well struggle. I feel that Clyde seem to always get lucky breaks and I remember one season (when the games were on scotsport) it was almost certain that every week they would get a fluky goal or a wicked deflection to take the ball in. So maybe luck will play a part for them! I like Morton (due to the fact we haven't been beaten up there for years) but I think they will struggle this year!

9th Clyde/Morton/County/Airdrie
10th Airdrie/Clyde/Morton/County

That's my guess!!!

I think you're right about the 'pundits' I recall the likes of John Lambie and Dick Campbell confidently predicting us for relegation in previews in the press over the last half decade. The bookies however, contrary to popular view amongst Queens fans for some reason, typically haven't. They genrally don't rate us highly but neither have they tipped us for relegation more than twice and as outright favourites for it more than once.

What was it about the Thistle team that lost once to you (don't forget the two dodgy decisions) in four meetings that leads you to suggest they were woeful?
