The choices include:-

Hafnarfjordur (Iceland) v Grevenmacher (Luxembourg)

Vetra (Lithuania) v Viking Stavanger (Norway)

Union Luxembourg (Luxembourg) v Kalmar (Sweden)

FC Honka (Finland) v IA Akranes (Iceland)

Glentoran (N.Ireland) v Metalurgs (Latvia)

Brondby (Denmark) v B36 (Faroe Islands)

Nordsjaelland (Denmark) v TVKM Tallinn (Estonia) *

EB/Streymur (Faroe Islands) v Manchester City (England)

JFK Olimps (Latvia) v St Patrick's Athletic
(Ireland)

Djurgarden (Sweden) v Flora Tallinn (Estonia)

Suduva (Lithuania) v TNS (Wales)

Cliftonville (Northern Ireland) v FC Copenhagen (Denmark)

Cork City (Ireland) v Haka Valkeakoski (Finland)

Midtjylland (Denmark) v Bangor City (Wales)

Obviously, we'd like the easiest team left in the competition, but even that might prove difficult...so I've decided I want a decent venue:-

Djurgarden who play at AIK Stockholm's stadium, Rasunda:-

Or Viking Stavanger as I've got a good Norwegian mate of mine who also supports AFC Wimbledon. Decent stadium too:-

Juninho
I wouldn't rule out Streymur just yet, Man City will have to be sharp to beat them.

Somewhat misleading. there are a number of teams in that list that we CANNOT get due to the seeding situation. There's no scenario in which we can play Manchester City for instance. Nor Brondby.

That's a pity.

It would have been set up for one of the most fantastic footballing ironies ever -- you go to the City of Manchester Stadium and win, with you only being there because you'd faced Rangers in the Scottish Cup Final.

I do, of course, realise that it would be slightly difficult to bring that to fruition...

Indeed. The seeding still means a tough test though!

So where do you fancy going Skyline?

We could play City in the 1st Round proper if they win their two qualifying games and we win one.

I'm pretty open on it. I don't want a domestic tie. In all probability we're only going to play one European tie in my lifetime. I'd be pretty gutted if we ended up not even needing a passport to play it. Although Bangor or TNS would be one of the best chances of further progress I'd be really disappointed to end up in Wales or Northern Ireland and fairly disappointed to end up in Southern Ireland. They are all places we might play a pre-season friendly.

Beyond that I don't really mind. Faroes, Iceland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Luxembourg are all the other possible destinations. Luxembourg would undoubtedly be best (weakest opponents, not that expensive) but it's also the least likely one. I really don't mind much between the rest. I've not been to any of them before so it'll be something new. The Baltic countries will be cheaper to go to than the Scandanavian ones. They also represent probably slightly easier tasks, certainly than Sweden. Happy to take whatever we get though as long as it's outside the British Isles.

Win or lose I doubt the rest of Europe really gives the slightest toss about Queen of the South.

The only people who seem concerned about "the impression of Scottish football" are envious, bog-standard SPL sides who struggle to grasp the fact that the way we (and countless other teams) have qualified for Europe, is perfectly legitimate, and achievable by themselves, simply by being good enough.

I didn't hear many cries from Gordon Smith about Hibernian "disgracing Scottish football". The only disgrace I can see in this whole situation is the arrogance that Scottish teams should be steamrolling the likes of Scandanavian teams.

Pretty much my views, though I'd also take TNS, Bangor or an Irish team if I think we could progress. Unfortunately, I think we might struggle even against the likes of them. I fully expect most of the Welsh/NI/Southern Ireland teams to get knocked out, though one or two of Cork/St Pats/Glentoran might come through. Any of those would be a toughie.

I currently quite fancy a trip to Herning an the SAS arena to face FC Midtjylland.

Just the first qualifying round, I think.

The pitch at the CoM should be ready by 14th August...certainly, the English Premier kicks off 2 days later.

I thought you couldn't change your home venue during the comp..
Does affect us as we are playing at Airdrie due to hopefully allowing everyone who wants to see the game see it.

Does that mean we could move to Hampden for group stage games later on biggrin.gif

You can change venues between competitions but you can only have 1 registered ground per competition. Turf Moor will be their registered ground for their (last and only) round in the Intertoto Cup - CoM Stadium in UEFA Cup. I presume...

Man City aren't in the Intertoto. They entered the UEFa Cup at the earliest possible round via the Fair Play league.

I believe they received special dispensation from UEFA because they were able to prove that CoM wasn't available under any circumstances.

And also because they persuaded them that the circumstances were partially created by their hosting of the UEFA Cup Final I think. Sure I read that on SkyText at one point.

Nothing to do with Bon Jovi or The Foo fighters appearing on the pitch in June of course. rolleyes.gif

Of course Man City don't even own their "council house."
HibeeJibee
Ah yes I've confused Man City (Fair Play) with Aston Villa (Intertoto). In that case, I think Manchester City should NOT be allowed to change venues. Especially since their ground is being used for concerts, making them (and council) £££...

A qualifying tie, which is regionalised to the teams above. Then theres the first round which is a free for all with AC Milan etc.

I am not really fussed where we go, but would rather it was away second so I get paid twice before then. That's not selfish is it?

Yes, you selfish b*****d!!

Would prefer an away leg first - would be good with no 'we're out already' feeling.

I'm likely to head over fore a couple of days so somewhere where the beer is reasonably cheap and I don't have to change planes twice to get there would be good. Also somewhere where there are no local skinhead throwbacks from the Cold War...

Bets on the Welsh team being drawn...

Logistically a home leg first would be preferable. Gives us longer to sort out travel which will be something we're not used to anyway. There are just 13 days between the draw and the first leg. Realistically if we're away first that only leaves a week to sort things out.

Financially it would most likely be better to play the home leg first. There is a danger if we go away first and get comfortably beaten that the home leg becomes an anti-climax and people don't travel all the way to Airdrie to watch a dead fixture. Neutrals are probably less likely to go too.

Progressively though conventional wisdom would suggest we'd be better playing the away leg first to have the best chance of success. Not sure that's a major factor with the game at Airdrie. Might have been a much bigger factor if the game had been at Palmerston.

Personally I'd rather have the home leg first for both of the first two reasons.

Draw is next Friday lunchtime.

When will the fixtures be confirmed? Is there any chance that tie may be switched to Wednesday night or a complete change of the fixture drawn first but play away leg first due to other fixture etc.

Just looking it from point of view of booking flights and then match being changed
Regal Bankie
Good luck whoever you get...I assume the bookies won't be giving us odds of 4/1 (a la Derry to beat Gretna at Fir Park) if you get an "easier" team though. tongue.gif

From the first match in the group stage, a club must in principle play all its
matches in the UEFA Cup at the same ground.

So City are entitled to revert to CoMS for subsequent rounds and yes QOS could transfer to Hampden for the group stage. wink.gif

I'd prefer it if the 2nd leg was away as I'm at a conference in London the week before, so def easier for me if it was after that!

Also somewhere cheap as I'm away to Macedonia and Iceland for the Scotland games a few weeks later.

I feel like I'm taunting the footballing gods just now, so we'll prob end up away first against a team in Iceland.
