Full Version: Who Is Going To Be Your Most Important Player This Season

The ghost of Jim Morton
I was just thinking about exactly who in the Saints squad will be our most influencial player this season,a match winner ,especialy in the games that we don,t deserve to win but must if we are to win the Championship.I think that we will need to be stronger( much, much stronger) in defence this term and as such I feel that a fit Kevin James could be the key to any success.Organising the back 5 and getting them to operate as a solid single unit and contributing more to the goals scored from set pieces......

Who in your team will that player be and why?????
irvineTON
I think Paartalu will be an important player for the Ton in the coming season. Great composure and can break up the opposition play.
Stainrod's Fedora
McMenamin, if fit, is pretty much guaranteed to get goals for us in this division. However, I think our key player will be his strike partner, Antoine-Curier. If he fulfills the promise shown in the short time he was with us last season, then I reckon Dundee will be in with a great chance of promotion.
CRM
Liam Buchanan.

A fit and on form Liam Buchanan could and most likely will be the difference between us having a decent season with a top half finish and having a crap season with us struggling to stay out of the relegation fight. The reason for this is he is likely to be the only player who will offer us a decent goal return as Mark Robert's best days seem to be behind him unfortunately.

I'm agreeing with the earlier guy that said Paartalu.

I believe he made all sorts of difference to the team at the end of last season, and the backline was better for him being there. He seems to inspire confidence in those around him and that will make him very important for the season.

Kevin James is a terrible defender, I'll admit he is very useful for attacking corners and free kick but is a donkey at the back.

For me possibly Samuel or mad mental Martin Hardie then again there also jody morris has a big rep for a reason so will be intresting to see

I'd say Gary Harkins is equally important because if he continues the form he ended last season on I believe could be one the best midfielders, if not the best midfielder, in the division.

Why would it be Gary Harkins when we have a decent backup in Ryan McStay, we have f**k all for Buchanan.

Good point, never thought about that. Buchanan probably edges it then.

Kevin MacDonald - but he will only be able to function properly if we bring in a decent defensive midfielder.

Don't think he's ever played for them. Went on loan to Stirling from Gretna, and was pretty rubbish when I saw him. Signed for Morton once Gretna went into administration, and seems to have done fairly well for them. He's a big lad.

Mackay or McPake could take this to be honest.

Last season when McPake came back the leaking of goals stopped tremendously. If he plays all of this season and gets a decent partner in central defence then we will concede much less than we did last year. This we need to be matched with performance up top if we are to have any chance on improving on last year however.

Mackay was solid consistantly last year and his link up play between defence and attack certainly helped us in scoring as many goals as we did. If he can do what he did last year then we'll have no problems on the getting chances front.

Ahh.. yes.
I was thinking of some over-rated muppet who'd played for Airdrie in the past.

Tuffey, you do f**k all without a decent keeper.
The Ghost of Ron Burgundy
MacDougal...if he can stay injury free and find some belief in himself he will make a few much needed goals for the team....we have sadly lacked someone who can beat a man and flash a ball across the box.

I think joddy morris he can marshall any midfeild and has a little bit more class about him than most of the other players in the league.

Not much input from County fans here so I shall suggest two players.

1/ Dyron Daal. Has scored 8 in 4 games pre-season and I think has come on leaps and bounds from his previous spell in Scotland.

He will find the net at least 15 times in the league this season.

2/ Tony Bullock. He is worth 15 points alone. Unbelievable reflexes and will keep us in games when we should be dead and buried. His commanding aproach will hinstill confidence all the way through the team.

I'm sure St Johnstone fans will take issue with both your points. I believe Radford was championing Daal at this stage last season only for the big man to prove him horribly wrong. He may have scored eight in four, but what was the standard of the opposition?

As for your second assertion, I know it's only one incident, but Bullock didn't look to commanding during last season's cup tie against the Saintees. wink.gif

Erik Paartalu by a country mile, without him our midfield would get ran over like it used to. Maybe he's not even that good, maybe he just looks it because we've been watching Scott Mclaughlin for years.
Nizzy
Liam Buchanan, without a shadow of a doubt. The second Broadwood game aside (do we count that even though Clyde were shit?) we were completely toothless once we lost Liam to injury.

It's not only his goals we miss, but his energy and workrate. McCall has said in the past that Rowser and Archie are the first names on his team sheet, but Lia, in my opinion, makes a far greater contribution than any player currently stationed at Firhill.

I admit we will not be challenging for any honours ant the opposition was against a couple of Orkney teams and then the mechanics from Forress!

I doubt Saint J have much to worry about over the course of the season.

Not me, Niz. I knew he was a donkey after about 20 minutes of his first appearance and that despite scoring a couple of goals. Obviously I was prepared to give him a chance but that initial impression turned out to be spot on. David Weatherston was the prospect for us this time last year.

Daal won't get anywhere near 15 goals and sitting on Fuenlabrada's bench can't have improved him that much.

I actually wouldn't stray far from what Ghostie has said for us, Kevin James could be the most important player. We certainly need one of the experienced centre backs to have an outstanding season.

I hope I prove you all wrong about Dyron.

I seem to be making a habit of mistakes today. Maybe it's time for a break. Did you perhaps champion him pre-pre-season? wink.gif

I enjoyed us signing him when Dangerous Dave was desperate to bring him to Dens and after Vital Dees had told the world on his website that Dundee would be the only Scottish club he would sign for!
