You have a huge e-penis, congrats.

Not sure how good a test this is, would appreciate feedback! Getting 530 kb/s to recommended nearest and 1200 to London, on a 2m cable service. Was paying for 8M and sacked them for poor performance and support, never got over 4m and typically 2+m. IMO the contention ratios are too high round here but, can I get the buggers to accept that, can I fish .... grump dry.gif

Give them a phone and ask about the free upgrade to 20megs for exsisting customers, that is what i did.

I am with BT on an 8Mb connection. I have d/l's on just now so I won't run the test but I did it just a day or two ago and it was hitting roughly..

6500 down, 380 up.

cow-bite. moo, those are fairly tasty d/l rates. Are you on a commercial connection?

Edit: ran the test anyway, even while d/l'ing pictures of Marrez's mum.

No. I don't know what's happened to my connection - it's normally around 11,000-12,000, but the last three or four days it's fairly hiked up.

The thing with Telewest/NTL stuff (and with a few other providers now too) is that it's not actually ADSL, but cable. You connection via the network card rather than through a USB modem connection.

Trivia time: The 'A' in ADSL stands for asynchronous. Meaning that your download speed is different to your upload speed. It's a pet hate of mine when people say they have a "DSL" connection, when they actually mean "ADSL".
MonTheRovers!!
This was on here not long after i joined IIRC.

Not a clue what any of this means. Is it good or bad?

On 8MB BT, I doubt it's ever been close

Because, as I say, you aren't connecting via ADSL using Telewest, in fact you are connecting to a distributed network.

Never thought of that. Going to ms right now...

edit: ok, first thing found was visio 2007 trial 237mb

2nd edit: filled in the form and started download @ 1.8mb/sec

3rd edit: is dipping: 1.4mb/sec

4th edit: 65% average 1.5mb/sec

5th edit: tis complete, never saw the final average sad.gif but reckon it must have been about 1.4-1.5mb/sec

So what does this mean? Clearly there appears to be no capability for me to whack a download down faster than 20mbit, yet immediately after the download was finished, I get this...

Now Speedtest, I've found, is usually pretty accurate when measuring the speed of my connection. Normally it just confirms the speeds I appear to get from downloading from MS/Adobe etc, but this is bizarre.
