I know this isn't Highland League but it's the closest I could get!

My name is Niall and I'm the Chairman of Tain's only senior football outfit, Tain Thistle.

After 12 years of Welfare football we've made the jump to the North Caledonian senior football league (formerly referred to as the Highland League Second XI).

QUOTE
Committee members Niall Harkiss, Brian Patullo and Stevie George attended the North
Caledonian committee meeting this evening, to learn the fate of the club's application to
join the league for the 2008/09 campaign.

We are pleased to announce that the league committee and its members unanimously
approved Tain Thistle's application, and the club will compete in the North Caledonian
League for the 2008/09 season.

I encourage everyone with a neutral eye to come along to games if they are passing, and if not, just keep an eye out for our scores. It's going to be an adventure!

Now who the hell am I going to support?

My (what I call) hometown team - Tain

or

My (due to family reasons) other team - Balintore

Actually I have decided now. It has to be Tain thumbup2.gif

Excellent choice! We beat them 3-2 last night in the Welfare league. Back on top, with three games to go. Here's hoping for the best!

I take it this means that Tain St Duthus are not coming back from the dead any time soon?

Most of the old St Duthus committee are now working with Thistle, so I would imagine no.

Shameless plug, I know, but we've got to survive somehow! :-)

Did anyone see our bit in the North Star?

You will have to beat the 2 Caithness teams to do anything in that league mate esp Halkirk biggrin.gif

Do you still play on the park just over the bridge at the back of the railway line?

Yeah but the bottom pitch has been flattened and re-seeded just now so we use the top pitch.

My first ever Tain game was at the top pitch.

Good luck mate. Any team that takes support away from ICT is fine with me. wink.gif

I probably should have some sort of liking for Tain after being from that area, but I guess Alness Utd is the favoured team in that league now.. Pretty much because my son plays for their Under 15's team.

Who won the MSIS Shield last night, on Tain's pitch.. Pretty proud and emotional moment seeing your son win a tournament.

They play in Red and Black, have "Thistle" in their name - I should dislike them, but I'll put old prejudices to one side and wish them all the best. Besides I work with Michael Brands brother.
