Sorry obvious my pish english has let me down.
What is the worst opening day result, that a team that has gone on to win the league, has had ?
Worst start that I can think of at present was Manchester United losing 3-1 to Aston Villa at the start of the 95/96 season (the one where Hansen said his legendary line about never winning anything with kids)
Not likely to be the worst ever result I suppose

That would have been interesting, if it related to the original question.

Man Utd werent even champions in the start of the 95/96 season either, so wrong on both fronts.

This isn't getting us very far. I've had a scan back over the past ten years and can't see any real humpings, nothing worse than Airdrie's 3-1 defeat at Morton in 2003/04.
Got to be something worse than that though, if anyone can be bothered looking back a few more years.

One of the worst starts to a league winning season (although not confined to their opening day result) must have been Rangers' first 6 games in 1989/90 which ended LLDWDD.

Along the same lines if a bit of topic, on the 7th Febuary 1998 Stranraer sat second bottom of the league but won it on the last day the 10th of May.

How close must that table have been?
Please tell.

Clyde lost the first two games and drew the 3rd on our way to winning the 2nd division 1999-2000 season. I would imagine there has been worse starts than this though.

I don't think anyone has mentioned this so far but when Hibernian won the 1st Division Championship in the 1998/99 season they got off to an inglorious start.
They lost their first home match of the season 2-1 to Stranraer and could only win three of their first eight matches.
From October though, they were near unstoppable only losing one further league match to Clydebank.
The defeat to Clydebank was the only league match they failed to win in a run of 22 games from the 24th November 1998 to the 8th of May 1999.
They won the division in the end by a whopping 23 points, Falkirk finishing second.

That really is a stunning fact.

Done a quick check on our titles -
Our league wins in the 60s and the one in the 70s were all pretty much off to a flyer.
More recently we have been slow starters - the opening scores below (up to a point where wins started to appear regularly) for different league campaigns.
83-84 (1st) - 4-1, 1-1, 2-3, 1-3
87-88 (1st) - 3-0, 2-2, 0-1, 5-2, 0-3, 0-1
94-95 (2nd) - 1-1, 1-0, 1-2, 0-2
02-03 (3rd) - 1-1, 5-1, 2-4, 3-0, 1-1, 0-1

It's about to be Celtic after they get trounced 5-0 but then go on to win the league.

I was just thinking that. Didn't they draw 4-4 with Motherwell in the first league game as well?
