Starting to come through now, seen Villa at 4/5 to finish above Newcastle which, as much as it pains me to say it, is as much of a certainty you could possibly have. Have also seen Everton 4/7 againts Newcastle.
Anybody seen any prices for the Scottish leagues yet?

Agree with DJP, Ince's signings and targets aren't exactly inspiring and I can't see Bentley staying either, they had been punching well above their weight anyway, bottom half finish.

What company is offering the lower league odds?
I think you would have to be a nutcase or have a very good starting balance to even bother betting on these.
You are going to have to invest serious money to make this worthwhile, and you have to wait 9 months for your potential winnings. Count me out.

Snap!
I very rarely put anything on a bet that will take a season to pay out. Unless I was willing to invest a few grand (Which I am not!) then just see this as a poor book.
Cant wait for the season to start so we can all get back into the serious betting!

I think you have to be fairly confident in your knowledge of all the leagues. I have spent a fair amount of time trawling club and fan websites, jotting down players signed and opinions etc. I'm nowhere near blue's league but last season I did eight of these bets, all accas, three teams up to eight teams, and got six up. I did invest a couple of hundred and my profit on ante posts was £1407 but my week to week betting was rotten so my overall profit was, ahem, a bit less!
Edited to add: you may have been tempted by ladbrokes generosity last season - Dundee Utd v Gretna 8/11, Qos V Stirling 4/6. A few mad ones down south too.
I'd be quite confident I could get about 70% of my season match bets up and can easily see why it would be a good earner, but the thing that stops me doing is because of having the money 'locked up' for 9 months.
Investing profit in it is a good, sensible idea but I am perhaps a bit too greedy and look for more immediate success.

Jul 24 2008, 19:31
If you've got some spare cash and some good judgement, the money is better invested in good long-term bets than earning 5% per year in the bank.
Or maybe I'm just a nutcase?
I believe you fall into the 'good starting balance' catagory.
ShakehandsTom - DFC
Jul 27 2008, 18:19
Unfortunately I defintely don't fall into the category of having a 'good starting balance', but none-the-less, I do like a good wee ante-post football bet.
I think Crewe on the Handicap (both Outright and e/w) are a decent shout. 18/1 for +24 points. They have made some impressive signings strikers-wise, and have signed a few defenders who have experience at this level.
Also, albeit it was only a friendly, but they did thump Hull 4-0 at the weekend, and it was Hull's first team. The abject performance first-half apparently prompted Phil Brown to make the maximum 11 changes all at half time.
Signing strikers like Elding and Zola, in addition to Nicky Maynard they already have, could make them genuine contenders for the title this season I feel.

Falkirk 8/13 v Inverness
Dundee utd 10/11 v Hearts
Motherwell 1/3 v Killie
Ross County 1/1 v Partick
Brechin 2/5 v Queen's Park
Dumbarton 10/11 v Montrose

West Ham 8/11 v Blackburn
Peterborough 4/6 v MK Dons

Got Agbonlahor 5/6 v Walcott, just £60 on but I think it's 5-0 so far.
£50 (£12.50) Trixie of Man U v Liverpool, Carew v Benjani and Yakubu v Crouch is only one slightly in balance, well the Carew part shouldn't be.

Too right, but it was totally offset by Newcastle beating Portsmouth 3-0 a few weeks ago.
I'm a bit narked I didn't have several thousand £ lying around in July, the Exeter to beat Barnet bet at 5/6 was an absolute steal, having seen Barnet pre-season it was an absolute stick-on.

You never know, an Arab billionaire might take over Barnet and go on a spending spree. Would be easier to make an impact in League Two than it is going to be with Manchester City anyway.
I wish I'd spent more time looking at pre-season bets. I'm very happy with the ones I've got, but didn't really look at the season match bets at all for League One and League Two.
