The Pie Shop > International & Other Football & Other Sports > South of Scotland League
gallowsbank
Decided to start a new topic to find out what the thoughts are of the many users of pandb in the SOS.

Only sensible answers please.

PS. Annan Athletic will continue to play South of Scotland League Football (ie keep south side if elected to SFL3 on Thursday, so their is no change their).

I think Annan are run by some sensible people meaning the committe but i have concerns about a few things;
1 I dont think their Manager is a S.F.L Manager.
2 After seeing them in action a few times last season they will need a full squad of players I cant remember one that played last year that could live in the S.F.L.
3 Changing rooms let them down a bit on less they've extended them in the last year or 2.
4 the pitch it is on a bit of a hill.

I hope for this area and the commitee they make it but think they will be the whipping boys if they do on less there are at least 14 new signings and a manager in place capable of putting them on the park

Annan would need 10-12 new players minnimum. The quality of player at Annan is poor, and the talent in the area is just not there. It is okay to play a one off cup game and get a result, but to compete week in week out is a whole new ball game.
All the non league clubs in the region, are after the same few players every season.

The manager in one of the things that is SFL about them, he has many years experience in the lower leagues. Played until he was about 42.

Maybe not last season but what i remember when he was there first time round - before he moved to manage Arbroath - his training was first class, had the boys motivated and playing well together. I genuinely believe that he will continue to help Annan improve and push forward to better things.

What about Neil Hislop @NewtonStewart.He is local but knows a bit about the leagues.

What sort of crowds would Annan bring to the SFL?
boardroomshuffler
Think 5/600 after initial interest.
gallowsbank
The fixture list has been kind for Annan if elected 2moz. Due to us being equidistant from our near neighbours who will be playing in the 1st division of their respective Scottish and English leagues next season ther are only 3 scheduled fixtures when all three sides AA, QOS and CU are due to play at home on the same day. That means that all football fans in our catchment area have a choice of travelling away with their own teams or coming to watch one of thier near neighbours (albeit some would say a lower standard of football but neverless football on their door steps.

It is vey likely me thinks that 2 if not 3 of the games mentions above that Carlisle are due to play when both AA and QOS are at home the same day will be played on the Friday night prior to the saturday.

Anyhow to get back to your original question how does 400 plus at a fiver a head sound

That'd probably be the highest average in the league... if you could sustain that over the season it'd be cracking. Our crowds depend on how well we're doing.

Are Annan really proposing to charge only £5 entry? All other clubs were at least £9 last season and I believe the SFL do set a minimum charge, or at the very least have a recommended minimum.
gallowsbank
OK how does £8 entry sound and kids to get in free if accompanied by a paying adult still equals 400 plus crowd

Annan Athletic are the same kind of team that Gretna were before Brooks Mileson got his greasy fingers in the pie. In fact, I would say that Annan actually have a better fan base than Gretna had when they gained league entry.

I just wonder if the Annan committee could manage to turn down any potential investor that may come along and try to jump on the Annan gravy train.

I am not so sure that I would want a team so close to Queens to get elected to the league tomorrow as I see this as competition for our fans and of course our fan base. Annan would certainly be no worse than some of the third division sides though, but would be seen as no more than the regions cuddly toy.

Good luck anyway cool.gif

Annan is a club that is run by hard working individuals and i think it should be made clear to any doubters that they certainly will not go down the route Gretna took.

As for competion for your fan base it's just not going to happen. Queens have what i consider to be a very loyal fanbase and some may travel to Annan if Queens are not at home. By keeping ourselves as a community club and keeping our entrance charges down i've no doubt that we could attract a healthy gate.

Good luck in your Euro adventure. cool.gif

You really don't know anything about him, by lower leagues I mean SFL 2 and 3.

Come on big guy he's not the man for the job what did he achieve at Arbroath. I think Annan have a good committee who will already realise that. But at this late stage who else do you get i think he'll gat this season and then replaced

Arbroath have been pretty gash since they were relegated from the first, no one as really achieved anything with them until this season. We will just have to wait and see.
