How much do referees get paid in the Juniors?
Actually, it's not so much the referees I'm interested in - but the linesmen for doing next to bugger all in some games on the instruction of the referee.

I understand Assistant Referees at Junior Games get paid peanuts and don't get travelling expenses.

You'd be better selling The Big Issue.

Heard that Refs get about £30 a game + expenses and assistants about £10.

Doing a school game gets about £25 so no suprise that you can't get assistants for junior games on a regular basis.

I believe there is a a shortage of around 1000 officials across the country every week. Last I heard the fees were something like £25 and £12.

The east region refs are upto £40 from £38 and assistants £20 from £19.

I'd be amazed if thats a correct figure! 1000?
The situation needs looked at as there are a lot of poor ones out there at the moment.Should the SFA not be trying to get more officials in or stop making the ones they have got retire as early if they still pass the fitness tests.

That figure relates to all levels of football and will be pretty accurate. Very few leagues run for 12+ age groups have anything like the numbers they require to provide a referee for every game.

the recuritment and retention of referee is
a very serious concern ,most classes will qualify
about 15/20 referees the next season there could
be 3 still refereeing, the reason is the abuse they
get from the touchline especially at kids games
remember no referees no game

Yep it's across all levels of football. The figure of 1000 was from a year or so ago, it may have got better, but probably has got worse.

Because of the shortage, there was a bit of talk of preventing assistant refs being involved in non-league football.

Nothing to do with the petty little men who are empire building within referee associations up and down the Country, or is that an Ayrshire specific thing?

This afternoon my club, which plays in a supporters' league, paid £38 for the referee. I can't believe refs at Junior level get paid just £25.

That's a rip off Gnash - I'll do it for £30 anytime you need a ref (seriously!).

£25 I think is out of date - someone has provided a more up to date figure of £40 for refs and £20 for assistants.
RedWeb
At a Wigtown game in the SoSL in April I heard the ref asking the home sec for £52. There were no linesmen so this must have all been his money.

For the last season or two its been £35 for a ref and £17.50 per assistant

While looking at the SJFA site I found the West Region Constitution and at the bottom of the page it says for 2008-09 the referee will get £35.
Scandalous the assistants get half of that - I wouldn't mind if they were doing the job they were paid to do.

What's that supposed to mean?

£17.50 with no expenses is an absolute joke.

The match was through in Edinburgh - to be fair I think we normally pay £30 for a ref if we're playing at home.

They do a lot of empire building, they do nothing to help retain referees. How many do we both know, that are no longer there due to piffle that has nothing to do with refereeing matches.
