From what i've heard he is a good solid centre half. Hes only young so hopefully we can sign him and keep him for a good few years. But livi want some obscene amount of money for him that i don't think buddies will b willing to pay sad.gif sad.gif

James McPake is the club captain. When he came back from a long injury last season our defence improved dramatically. St Mirren made a dirisory offer of £30,000 for him. Let's face it, there's being thrifty in running your club and there's trying to commit daylight robbery. Livi have announced publically that he is part of their plans for next season and is not for sale. Realistically if a silly offer was to come in that would have to be considered.
St Mirren have been very cheeky with this one. dry.gif

Don't listen to Strathbrock. He is rank and you should actively encourage your club to desist from bidding for him. mad.gif

Best centre back in the league IMO

Now that McLaughlin's away that's a fair claim, but I'd say that a fully fit Alan Archibald would be right up there. Of course, supporters of othe teams would probably fancy one of their centre backs to take that title, but hey ho.

Oout of interest, could you give me anindication of how many goals Livi conceded last season 1) while McPake was out injured, and 2) after he returned.

We always are, as are most if not all the SPL. If it was Rangers putting in a bid, I doubt it would be that much higher.

Nonsense. We asked how much Livingston wanted, were told, and said no, you're alright...thanks anyway.

That is being cheeky how?

Did you expect a club to bid £200K or whatever ridiculous valuation you have placed on him so as not to appear disrecpectful? wacko.gif

Livi conceded 26 goals in 18 games when Mcpake was playing.
Livi conceded 44 goals in 25 games when McPake wasnt playing.

McPake is a good centre back at this level, particularly quick, physically strong, good tackler, aggressive header. Sometimes gets caught out positionally but for now his speed gets him out of trouble.
McCaffrey was Livi's best allround CB last season but he now has his deal with Falkirk.

Totally agree if buddies want him they shouldn't go higher than £50,000 IMO.

He hasn't proved himself at this level and i think £50,000 is as much as you'd get for a 1st Division CH.

Nope, cheeky is have accepted a 30k bid for an International defender who later played in Europe for yourselves and Rangers, a midfielder who later played in Europe with yourselves and 2 Scottish cup finals with other clubs, not to mention a striker who went on to score 13 goals that season. dry.gif

In that case we'll be happy to keep him and you'll be happy not to part with your money. Everyone's a winner. tongue.gif

No way will I argue with that. Getting Marv, Alex Burns and Stevie Tosh for £100,000 was the steal of the century. As I remember it though, it was the Raith Rovers Board who contacted Livi because of the financial problems they were having at the time. Who would look a gift horse in the mouth? cool.gif

The McPake case is rather different.

100k? Yer 'avin a giraffe. It was 30k.

The 100k figure magically came about because theother 70k was wages we saved paying the players so it got put about as 100k so it didnt sound so bad to our fans. mad.gif dry.gif

Livi are struggling enough for money as it is... i thought they would bite St Mirrens hand off for that kind of money dry.gif Anyway McPake will be a buddies player nxt season. The new Manager will think he knows best and offload him and Livi will b playin 2nd Division football for 2010/2011 tongue.gif

McPake? Maybe a decent centre half, but he was a rank rotten striker when we had him on loan.

Livingston are playing hardball for more cash, and who can blame them
in there current position but if they don't accept a 40k bid now, he will
be free to sign a pca at christmas for the club of his choice and they
will get SFA for him.... wink.gif

Players also want to play in the SPL not D1, so it can unsettle a player into making the club sell him TBH.

Many a 1st division offer gets turned down at first then the player wants the move and an increased second offer gets accepted.

The media then get the old 'Player wanted to move on, and the increased offer was good- would go for free line'.
ajcton
i hope st. mirren sign him.....................................fantastic player
