Full Version: Longest Serving Overseas Player

I know that it used to be Jerome Vareille, but as far as I'm aware he's without a club after being released by Ayr. He'd been playing continuously in Scotland since 1997.

As Marvin Andrews (also signed in 1997) is also without a club, who is it?

My first guess was Odious Prick Nacho Novo (to give him his full name), who signed for Raith in 2001. Is there someone still playing who's been here longer?

For the purposes of the question, 'overseas' means non-UK and Ireland, although since I started typing this post I thought I'd open add in

Longest Serving player from each of:

England, Wales, Republic of Ireland, and Northern Ireland

The only one I'd guess at there is Stephen Craigan for Northern Ireland...

Latapy - signed for Hibs 98/99 maybe?

Bobo Balde I think has been round a while as well
Zahana-Oni
David Fernandez as well

In fact Ludovic Roy or Graeme Brown have prob been around longer than most of them
Fuctifano
Good shout with Roy and Latapy, both 1998 . Balde was 2001.

Brown probably wins in terms of being over here longest, but he's grew up here. I was looking for people that had played a few years ouside Scotland before coming over.

In terms of English players, there can't be many who've played in Scotland longer than Peter Weatherson (signed for Queens in 2000)

He is, but spent 18 months in (work-related?) retirement though (2004-2006).

What about ex-Huntly, Caley stalwart Marco de Barros?

Reportedly born in London but with family background in Madeira (the Cristiano Ronaldo of the Highland League?) the HFL site says he made his debut as a teenager for Lossiemouth in 1986!

Only thing is, I'm not sure if he played this season just gone.

Is Steve Kerrigan still on the go? Born in Wolverhampton and been with Brechin since around 1996? Also, Richard Hastings of ICT has been here a fair while, has he not?

Hastings had 2 years in the Netherlands (02-04).

As for Kerrigan, English-born but how English is he? Did he have parents in the army? He's pretty strongly associated with Angus and the East coast having signed for Brechin from Kirrie Thistle, then going to East Fife, Montrose, Carnoustie and Forfar.

If we are including English-born Scots then Levi Stephen signed to the huns under Souness and played for Banks o' Dee last year after running the gamut of lower and Highland league clubs.

Edit: Actually he fecked off to Oz for a few years so doesn't do all that well overrall.

Kerrigan has a pretty good Brummy accent and a love for the Wolves, i think he's one of those lads that has just settled up here.
