Been looking at some of the North Region sites and there is a big debate / uproar at the moment with Lewis Utd being allowed promotion to the Superleague when they don't even have a ground.
Glentanar, Formartine Utd & Maud Juniors are the ones with the most discussion about it especially the later two.
Burnie_man
The Maud Juniors delegate raised this issue at the AGM on Saturday, but was basically told by Tom Johnstone to go away and read the minutes relating to the appeal.

What websites were these on. Cant say I have ever seen a North Juniors Chat site?

It's strange that Aberdeen Lads Club are denied promotion because their ground's not good, but Lewis United, homeless for the timebeing, can go up.

You can also get a bit of North Region chitchat on the Lossiemouth FC site.

Just been reading the thread on the Formartine website, seems like a right stooshie up there. Clubs being told they need to have 10 year leases and build new pavilions to take part in the Superleague, whilst clubs with no leases (allegedly) and no ground of their own are in huh.gif

Just thinking what that would mean in terms of the West Super League. Clydebank and Port Glasgow wouldn't be able to compete. Probably add a few North Ayrshire sides as well playing on Council owned grounds - although I think Kilwinning and Beith may have leases on the ground nowadays but not in the past.

beiths ground is still council owned they had a council grant a few years back to get there pitch playable. it still slopes like a ski jump..not many ayrshire grounds are council owned.. clydebank will play out of yokers midden next season

Has the Lewis United/Formartine United problem been settled?

Are Formartine now officially a North Region First Division club - or appeals still rumbling on?

In North Ayrshire I'd say that
Ardeer Thistle
Beith Juniors
Dalry Thistle
Kilbirnie Ladeside
Kilwinning Rangers
Largs Thistle
Saltcoats Vics
all probably play on Council owned grounds.

I'm not sure about Irvine Vics ground - that would leave only Winton Park and Meadow Park owned by the clubs themselves.

Would be interesting to know how many games were postponed at Valefield Park and Bellsdale Park last season. Of the two parks I'd say that Bellsdale is a far nicer ground to visit these days.

As it stands Formartine are a 1st Div club and that won't change as far as I am aware but I have heard that Formartine are not giving up without a fight.

The playing surface was good at the end of last season but thats probably due to the fact that it wasnt used much during the winter, you did have a load of home games postponed.
The 2 covered enclosures need a lot of work done lets just say.
When you make comments like "midden" you must expect some reply given that your own ground isnt exactly perfect?
Sloping pitch apart,Bellsdale is far superior to Valefield.

We are working hard along with Yoker to tidy the place up and money has been spent on the playing surface to improve that as well.
In an ideal world we`d have a brand new ground, unfortunatley the council up here aren`t very supportive of us or any sporting groups for that matter!
We`ve got plans to have our own ground along with other sporting facilities for the town but although the council make all the right noises when asked for their support, getting them to actually do something is another thing.

we.ve been aiming to sort out our stands for the past few years our main sponsor is jd pierce [steel erectors} materials etc; there willing to give us but they cant give us the labour .
money to pay someone to get our stands sorted is rightfully not what we should spend any funds we have on.. (councils are just not interested even though it would generate money for them) sad.gif

Can't tell you how many have been postponed, but I worked out as part of the fixtures experiment how many games were actually played at home over the period to November to March for the past five seasons. Full results here. There were only 3 Ladeside home games played in those months last season while Beith had managed to get 7 or 8 in each of the last 5 seasons.

give ladeside a 50k council grant like beith got and we.ll get our drainage sorted. we simply dont have the money to do the work.. would like to state that last season i personally and many a kilbirnie fans is the park was playable on many occassions.. refs turning up collecting half there fees and calling games off that were playable cant be anyones fault but lazy refs that dont like a wee bit of rain
