I really thought that these two players would have ended up managing at the top, probably with Jocky assisting Gordon.

Is Gordon still at Glenafton? Is Jocky still around? Anyone got any information or stories regarding this pair? They used to be close friends of mine many moons ago and we sort of lost touch.

Anything at all will do guys, thanks.

You might want to post on the Infowire board as well.

Dalziel is still at Glenafton, but I'm not sure if he was involved in football at all between leaving Raith and taking over again at Glenafton. Clearly a talented manager in my opinion and its a shame he didn't get a real chance at managing in the seniors, with Raith being in all the trouble they were in at the time. I don't know anything about Jocky McStay I'm afraid.

Last I heard of Jock McStay being involved at 1st team level in Scotland was at Albion Rovers. He'd managed the Glens prior to that.

Am I thinking of the same Gordon Dalziel who had a truckload of money to play with at Ayr for a couple of years and took them to a league cup final and Scottish cup semi?

A great Gordon Dalziel story. He's ranting and raving in the dug out during the 2006/07 play-off when Glens played Kilwinning Rangers at Abbey Park. GD's giving the Linesman pelters in front of the Glenafton support and says to the Linesman "Your not very good at your job are you". Linesman barks back "Well you musn't be very good at your job either". GD says "How ye make that out". Linesman says "Well if you had you wouldn't have been sacked by Raith earlier in the season and you wouldn't be here then". Dalziel's beetroot face went purple...a classic. Decent guy though.

Yes, he was sacked at the end of 2001-02 (if memory serves) for failing to get Ayr into the Premier League. A bit harsh I thought, and I've always wondered why no other senior team came in for him after that. Suppose he wanted to stay in the Ayrshire area perhaps?
