Full Version: Are Queens Leaving It A Tad Late Regards Europe?
The Pie Shop > The Cups > Scots in Europe
Queensthroughandthrough
I feel that Chis should have cancelled his holidays or at least should have conducted signings from his summer camp. All the better players are getting snapped up and it is looking more and more like we either cannot compete with other clubs or no one wants to play for Queens.

Any European qualifier has to start pre-season earlier than the other cubs due to the qualifying rounds and you can't just bring in players at the last minute and expect them just to mould into the team framework. I have no doubt that Chis will get some good players for Queens but I'm afraid he has just liquidated, eliminated and destroyed any small chance we had of actually winning a game in Europe.

I am still expecting a good league campaign and expect Queens to challenge for a while (if big Jim Thompson keeps fit) but I feel so sad that our European dream has been trashed due to incompetence and bad organisation by the board and management of Queens.

Still. I can't wait for the new season dry.gif Sorry about the moans ohmy.gif

Er, why? Hibernian do certainly but that's because they are in the Intertoto. I don't see why we have to. We'll have played two league games and a Challenge Cup tie before we kick a ball in Europe.

I wish people would stop panicking at the number of players signed. Most of last year's new signings were in July. I think only MacFarlane and Jamie Adams were signed up in June last summer. It was July 9th before Grindlay and MacDonald came in and Bingham the next day. Robert Harris came in on the 18th July along with Neil McGowan and Brian Gilmour the next day.

EDIT - Oh and what "summer camp"? huh.gif

Just beacuse Chisholm was on holiday does nor mean he was not in contact with agents or players. The wonders of modern communications means you can keep in contact from anywhere in the World.

I am more concerned about the lack of pre season games, only four and Burnley being the only top totch opposition. I would have thought we may have attracted a better class of opposition or others would have wanted to have played against UEFA cup team.

Perhaps the manager is happy with the build up and way things are going and he is in contact already with new player and preseason matches
rubber_duck
I'm sure Chisholm has it under control. Signings are surely on the way. Not worried really, apart from the goalkeeping situation.

As SD said, we will have played 4 friendlies, 2 league games and a challenge cup tie before the UEFA game. More than enough games to get warmed up for the Europe.

Yeh, it would have been great to have a friendly against a team of greater significance, but what do we realistically want from a friendly? a double digit drubbing or a competent run-out?

We will just have to await the details but think it is only to guage potential interest at this moment.

Until draw is made and we know who we are playing, when we are playing and where nothing much can be done. There may be a chance of looking at potential costs for planes etc so that once detail is known it is all systems go rather than starting to express an interest then,

What makes you think they are overpriced. No deails have been released as far as I can see yet

I found it quite funny that they sent me an e-mail telling me all about it and telling me to sign up. The only reason they had my e-mail address in the first place is because I'd already signed up!

I don't think so.

I haven't signed up but got the e-mail telling me about it at both home and office e-mail addresses. There was an opportunity a few years ago to sign up for e-mail alerts of breaking news on the website. It got used extensively for a few months and then pretty much forgotten about. That's the only thing I've signed up for and certainly the only thing using my work e-mail so they must have used the old mailing circular for that to send round the e-mail.

Or if you didn't sign up for that then I guess maybe they've just added the addresses of those who have signed up for this to the first list.

Off topic but ...any idea of when the club's OS is going to have it's long anticipated makeover skyline?

Would be nice to have a weekly newsletter from the club via Jamie with news and deals etc.

Having seen that lad Queens signed from Stranraer FC play in the SoSL i think Gordon Chisolm does need to make some signings for Europe, Gerry McLaughlin is far from Uefa Cup or even first division standard IMO

None at all. Several dates have been suggested to me and they've all come and gone. I have nothing directly to do with it and I've no idea what they are doing or where they are up to now.

I'm not quite sure what people think will fill a "weekly newsletter" though? It's only one club and, outwith windows there's a limit to what news there actually is. Even within windows the news comes in fits and starts. I've seen people moaning about a lack of info on the official site but if there's no news what do they expect? When someone is signed I'm sure the information will appear. Training gossip is inevitably more sparse these days just because it doesn't take place in Dumfries although they've only been back two days anyway.

McLaughlin is 19 and hasn't necessarily been signed with immediate first team action in mind. He looked pretty good when I saw him but that was only twice.

At 19 and moving to a first division club you should still stand out and show your quality against an SoS team poor signing IMO but i may be proved wrong which i doubt very much.

I signed up to the travel company's website the day it was announced on the Queens OS. Until that point I hadn't registered for anything related to them.

I'm pretty sure I am also a "member" of the qosfc.com internet supporters club or whatever it was known as, but I registered for that years ago with a different e-mail address.

As for the constant criticism of the OS, or the club in general, for not "keeping the fans up-to-date" enough, it is just ludicrous. When does the local or national media ever have anything to report about Queens that we haven't already read about on the OS? Half the time this so called news, be it in the Sun, the Border news or the BBC website, is a direct quote from the OS.

Sites like this and the Mad board are for speculation, and for all the development experts to discuss their flawless ideas for regenerating Palmerston and the surrounding site.

The OS is for communicating facts, and they do this IMO.

Agreed i expect it to be pricey - if its an away trip to Iceland though it may well be about the only option.

Pretty much anywhere in mainland Europe though and it may well be cheaper to do it yourself. The big advantage though may well be an option to fly straight back after the game which could save holiday time for many - thinking of future rounds and all that!

Still how surreal to be talking/worrying about the cost of going to Europe to watch Queens.

Yeah agree with that, I only have 4 days holidays to last me to January as the holiday years changing from June-May to Jan-Dec. So the groups are a no go for me! laugh.gif

I read them too. I can understand where they are coming from but in some cases that's unbelievably harsh. Several one day absences are treated much more harshly than one absence of several weeks! Doesn't seem much lattitude for a common sense approach in there either.

These kind of things remind me why I am delighted I work for a local company with face to face management.

I can see where they are coming from, it is a good thing for the company as a whole. There is alot of absenteeism on the the back shift, people not turning in on a Sunday when they have been seen out the previous night. Hopfully I wont have that long left in the company anyway.

Not had time to read all of this thread but my brother-in-law and I are gonna travel away and watch Queens in Europe. He's a big fan and needs someone to go with and with my sister being pregnant, I'm next in line.

Has there been any news on this ticket that is apparently gets you your accommodation, flight and entry to the game, or something along those lines?

There's no news on anything. Nor will there be until we know who and when we're playing. All you can do is register your interest on the website. At this point that doesn't necessarily guarantee you a match ticket. We could be drawn somewhere with a small ground and get only a few hundred tickets.

Anyone getting carried away with Queens European campaign would get a wake up call this afternoon when Hibs lost 2-0 at home to a swedish club. No matter who we get it will not be easy.

I know that Hibs have barely started training but would have expected better from them
