Now the glory hunting days are over and the wheels have certainly fell off the bandwagon,i would expect to see quite a few ex Gretna supporters shift their support along the road now yes wink.gif

To be fair, there's not really a lot of options for the fans who want to watch league football. Queen of the South is the nearest, so why not?

Maybe they can have their own section between the home and away fans so they can cheer whoever is winning? tongue.gif

It's unfortunate but I really doubt that the Queens board care who's giving them money. And yes the Queens fans may riducule, but as long as they are commited then I think they'll accept them.

It's sort of like the football equivalent of a spouse dying. It's not easy but you have to move on

Dont have a problem with genuine Gretna fans going to Palmerston now. Can only be good for the club, as mentioned by revolving duck. Must be horrible for any genuine supporter, of any team, to lose their club. But I do have a problem with the Queens fan who jumped to the (at the time) good ship Gretna, and will now head back QoS direction.

Always went to Queens games with a few mates from Lochmaben who then proceeded to stick on their Mileson-funded glory hunting hat and constantly ripped me about the shit football at palmerston, lack of ambition etc etc. They can GTF now, as far as i'm concerned. And there is a fair few like them.

I personally have no gripes with supporters returning now that Gretna have lost their league status. I said in some of the threads during the Cup run that if 500 of the 15,000 thousand that came to Hampden, came to Palmerston on a regular basis it would make a big difference to Queens, if some of that 500 are ex-Gretna supporters then fair play to them
qos_75
I agree with what most people have said and would have no problem with Gretna fans coming along and supporting Queens. In fact, if fans from other teams want to switch allegiance and come and support Queens, then please feel free to do so. wink.gif Radford, Swampy and Nizzy, we all know you are doonhamers at heart, so come and join our happy throng. biggrin.gif

Queens got the luck of the draw in the Scottish Cup, just like Gretna did and let's be honest, Aberdeen would just be a middle of the table first division side f they were in it. I was happy to see Queens emulate Gretna by getting to the cup final, but it was a tad flat with all the moaning Rangers team and their fans down-grading the cup as a diddy tournament.

There are one or two posters on this site who are a bit anoraky and trainspottish. One of them has to bisect every single post and that is really annoying mad.gif

There seems to be a bit of a drink culture with Queens fans, they don't sing at home games because their partners would kill them if they consumed the same amount before a game at Palmerston. They are always fighting and arguing with each other on this site or on the MAD site.

I think I will continue to give my money to Carlisle, there are quite a few ex-Queens people at Brunton these days rolleyes.gif At least the ground is ready for Championship football, I doubt Queens will get Palmerston ready for the SPL unless they do it on the cheap, in which case the ground won't make money for the club and they will come straight back down.

It's Carlisle for me and the odd South of Scotland League game when United dinny hay a geme biggrin.gif

Ahh truthy. Don't know you, but from what I've read (mainly on the MAD board) you seem like you were never the most committed of Queens fans anyway and so I'm not sad to see the back of you. Gretna were your team and I seem to remember you going on about our lack of ambition unlike them.

You keep going to Brunton Park mate. With fans like you supporting them, I'm sure the players will give their all...

Any Gretna fans buying a QoS season ticket will have to spend the first 6 matches in quarantine until they get used to 'big' crowds and the atmosphere.

Are you sure Brunton Park is ready for Championship football? Was the story not that if they had got promoted they had one years grace to put the ground up to championship standard or they would be relegated automatically.

hit the nail in the head for me with that statement, i worked with a few lads and often met a few in the pub who i had previously met at palmerston with queens tops on back in the day and they all said the same when they jumped on the gretna bandwagon, queens are shit, they have no ambition, gretna are the pride of dumfries and galloway etc. to my amazement at the cup final when queens scored the equaliser i turned round to celebrate and who did i bump into with a queens top going bangers one of them ex gretna fans/ex queens fan. that annoys the shit out of me and they are the sort i wouldnt welcome back at palmerston.

I know we never got decent gates at Gretna say their fans sad.gif They averaged about 47 fans per game in the Unibond and when they got into to the Scottish League they found around 250 gold diggers sad.gif

I don't want any of them sitting beside me this season ohmy.gif

I take it that the rumour (or was it the hope) that you had been sectioned was unfounded or are you on week-end leave?
I have never subscribed to the view that Gretna had any significant effect on gates at Palmerston so I won't be looking for any upsurge due to the demise of Gretna.

no wasnt the ex policeman although i know who you mean and no doubt he will be found snooping about at palmerston next year, it was actually our good friend the ex bookmaker thik his name is chris or something,
Scott_L
I've always attended the odd game at Palmerston since the days when George Rowe, Derek Townsley and Stevie Leslie were there. I saw one game last season which was their pre-season friendly against Carlisle United.

No doubt I'll be there two or three times this season as well, anything would beat shopping every weekend sad.gif

With our demise and considering the good season Queens had last time, I think attendances there could rise by quite a bit so long as they are able to build on last season. Carlisle United will also benefit.

I see he was kitted out in a kilt and Scotland top at the parade in Dumfries yesterday! I bet if England had made the Euro's he'd have been wearing their gear!

and no doubt if we had a sneak peak in his wardrobe at home we'd find a rangers top which has already been seen on his back and also a celtic top with larsson on the back

I think it's great they will still be involved, as long as there not the old glory hunters that left Queens when Gretna was going well.

You do not half read some pish on this site
Fact -there were no major numbers of queens fans that swapped allegiances to go to gretna .I personally, did not know anybody.
Fact-Our crowds went up in the period that Gretna were in the scottish league and they were only in the same league as us for one season.Teams like St.Johnstons average is buttered up by the fact that large
numbers of Dundee fans go there but knowhere else.
Fact-Gretna folk have always had a soft spot for Carlisle, with the cumbrians being by far the nearest team to them.As veteran says ,the gretna demise will have little effect on our crowds.I do not expect many to make the 25 mile journey to Palmerston especially as a lot of them will have read the rejoicing of their folding on our mad site.

Why not support Gretna's efforts to get a team back up and running in Scottish non-league football? They need your support more than Queens do. What's your sister doing? Giving up football?
