I would prefer to call it realism not faith.

For the record I have every faith in the players we have re-signed just no faith in the manager.

While Kenny Black is the manager there is every chance we will be visiting the highs of Brechin and Peterhead next season.

im still disagreeing, every chance of staying up. BUt be huge ask for that and a overturn of players for Aridrie to be up there. If they stay up be an achievement and then build from there.

this just doesn't look right, a thread about airdrie without a single post mentioning the fact that everysingle person who has ever entered the home end a new broomfield is white power fanatic with union jack tatooed on their chest ohmy.gif

Precisely. You're forgetting that Clyde are relegation candidates again, and Livingston may well implode.

You just never know, there's every chance you'll enjoy a second season in the SFL1

No wonder, we have Kenny Black as manager, who is the worst "tactician" and man manager ever, who also stated last week that he was going to overhaul the whole squad as they weren't good enough, then re-signs 12 of them laugh.gif ?

Just for you:-

Airdrie will be starting pre season training without a full compliment of players...again. We have a Manager with no tactical or motivational ability whatsoever. Our team last year, without Alan Russell would have been mid table obscurity, at best, in a truely awful league. Alan Russell has left, we have signed NO , - none, nada, zilch - new players, only resigned some of the dross that couldn't even beat Clyde in the Play Offs....

However, we are going to romp to 1st Divison title, Scottish Cup, Challenge Cup, Boat Race, Euroviosn Song Contest and "Pop Idol" glory in the next 12 months.

Happy now ? rolleyes.gif
EdinburghLivi
I think Livi and Airdrie are currently looking like the likely candidates based on their current squads. Unlike Airdrie supporters though, I think we actually have some faith that we can bring together a not bad team by the end of the transfer window. I think a top 5 finish is possible if we don't really cock it up. With Landi's connections and Hay's knowledge of scottish football (I await some backlash from Fife), I really think we shouldn't be anywhere near the relegation zone by the end of the season.
The Arch
Everything is pointing towards them getting relegated. Airdrie Thistle games can be quite exciting, so I'd hope they stay up.

Their fanbase on here seem pretty decent. I''ve never really believed the Nazi hype, and is only really jogged out by the retards of the forum.
chico
Airdrie go down? - nah. they'll grind out results, take points off 'the usual suspects' and probably end the season comfortable from last place. never underestimate the 'united'.

Don't think you'll be too far out, though my fear is that unless the promised new singings are brought on board early, our traditional shambolic start will leave too much work to do.

Last time out we didn't win until late September.

SaltyTON
Clyde, Airdrie and Livingston mentioned as relegation candidates, and no-one says Morton...

We haven't strengthened our side much, still have no good striker and only one crap keeper.

Our midfield is pretty decent, but we still have the Chuckle brothers at the back, now with that English/Kilwinning numpty of a keeper added in to the mixture!

Oh, that and there's still the possibility that someone will come in and sign Jim which would leave us needing a left winger...or play Keyring mad.gif

Davie Irons was strength enough. Only lost against the top three. A wee bit of solidity at the back and in midfield. I can see us being hard to beat, even if we'll struggle to pick up three points on a regular basis.

Even Lee Robinson looked more solid when Wylie took over as our GK coach. Think about it. Robinson. Solid. Shouldn't have happened. I can't imagine Stewart being much worse than him so I'm not too worried. If we bring in Innes, we'll probably have Graecen, McManus and Innes at the back, and with Graecen looking FAR better with the new management team in place, again, the wee bit of solididy will help our cause.

And there has been no actual links for Jim McAllister. There's the usual "McGhee" likes him, and as usual, nothing is happening about it. Probably because they're now challenging in the UEFA Cup places and JM is so many places below that level that it's funny.

As for Airdrie United, I've made my dislike for the fans clear. As for the team, they don't seem to be doing enough strengthening, and even the club themselves have acknowledged that they need to do some MAJOR work in the transfer market. I'd have to say that they don't look very promising, and could well be going back down.
Diamonds 666
I think most Airdrie fans are quite realistic about the coming season and would take third bottom right now. We are starting pre-season training with a first team squad of 12 players. I will support the manager as long as he is there but we need to sign a few more players within the next few weeks. There is still time but hopefully this will happen sooner rather than later.

At least we are currently top of the league! cool.gif

Good post! Agree with all you said especially accepting 3rd bottom right now. Though have to say it won't stop me hoping for better.

The ghost of Jim Morton
Airdrie will be fine, finishing 3rd or even 4th bottom..Clyde are nailed on relegation material..
Livi won,t be far behind( Davie Hay laugh.gif laugh.gif ) and Morton will struggle too.
Nobby
I think the problems of Airdrie have been long discussed on here and the Stomp, but there's surely no doubt that on paper we have the worst squad (not hard, with only 12 re-signed players from a team that never looked better than above average in the 2nd division) with a very limited budget that will see us sign the usual last-minute players that no one else wanted. Having said that I'm sure we'll make the playoffs, prolonging our 1st division status by as much as a few weeks.

Of course, things could, possibly, change before the season starts. Probably won't.

Any sort of survival would be a huge success obviously.
RedV
I think there are some on here who think we're attempting some sort of double bluff / false modesty mind-game bullshit - believe me, we're not. This is simple realism.

Since Kenny Black has been in charge, we have blown pretty much every single "crunch" match. I don't just mean the obvious candidates ie the play-offs, but all the ones that occur throughout the season where you have a chance to claw back some ground, either on other relegation candidates two seasons ago, or on promotion contenders last season. There has been a sickening inevitability about it all; "three points today and we..............oh well".

Not only did we lose pretty comprehensively over two legs to a very, very limited Clyde side in the play-offs (whose best player was a Marvyn Wilson who was a shadow of the player he was with us) we didn't even score - and that was WITH Russell, who is now away.

We had one great player last season, as well as a number of talented but extremely lightweight ones. We no longer have any great players, and have re-signed a whole bunch that couldn't get out a dismally bad 2nd division.

I hate to say it - and I'll be there every week to see it regardless - but next season promises to be painful.

Wish we'd taken Jim Duffy, to be honest.
