I'm looking to compile some statistics on both of these leagues and I was wondering what would be a suitable starting point for each league.

The Premiership obviously started in 1992/93 which makes an ideal cut-off for the English league.

However the Italian and Spanish leagues haven't had any sort of "rebranding" as far as I know. I don't want to go as far back as the inception of either league, because some of the information is very difficult to find and far too time consuming.

I was thinking of starting both at the start of the 1992/93 season because that also heralded the Champions' League era, but is there a more natural time for either league?

After WW2, 1946-47, is a reasonable place to start. The Italian League was suspended 1943-45 and regionalised 1945-46. The Spanish League was played during WW2 but was suspended 1936-39.

Thanks for that. I knew rsssf would have a lot of the information I needed, but I couldn't find that kind of page. I think I'll just start at the modern day and see how far back I can be bothered going.

I doubt I'll end up doing anything as far back as WWII.
