New Southcroft Park - home of Rutherglen Glencairn - will host Hamilton Accies reserve games and Sunday under-19 pro youth games next season. Hamilton are also helping out with a groundsman to maintain the playing surface, and will pay a fee for the hire.

The agreement is for 20 games. The reserves' fixtures are a Monday or Tuesday afternoon.

Glencairn are also planning to publish a programme for the official opening of the park by Clyde's first team on Saturday.July 19.Kick-off 3pm.Good to see the seniors doing their bit to help the 112-year-old junior club. smile.gif

nice to hear that,i think that a few more senior clubs could look at going down this road, falkirk are doing the same thing with linlithgow this season and apparently its already paying dividends as the pitch is looking like the dugsbaws.

There was a time (maybe 5 years ago?) when the SPL demanded that all Reserve games be played at an SFL or SPL ground.

Good to see they've reversed that decision. I remember seeing Dundee Violet's ground on Sky once when they showed a Dundee reserve fixture (or U21 as it maybe was then) on their Scottish Football prog circa 2000.

Looking forward to watching Hibs, Hearts, Old Firm etc. giving their youngsters a try out. Rose also keep the game money. You'll get a good turnout for the above teams alone. Lets hope the games are played in the evening.

Falkirk should be keeping it in the District and playing at Carmuirs. dry.gif

I think Prestonfield was chosen because Falkirk (attending for Danny Smith's testimonial game)were very impressed by the facilities the Rose could offer, not just the pitch, which is easily the best in junior football.
Not sure that Carmuirs, although it is an OK junior pitch is up to scratch.
You'd have attended the Camelon vs HoB game on Saturday, now compare that with your teams pitch.
I've never been in the Camelon dressingrooms but they would have to go some to better those on offer.
Sorry, BU fan, but it your club had put the time and effort into the club, then you could have been hosting a club from Central region. The reason Rose are getting to keep the gate is that firstly it wont cost that much to attend and they are helping Falkirk.
It's taken years of hard work to get Prestonfield into the ground it now is. This just didn't suddenly happen.

Meadow Park is an excellent surface, as is Newlandsfield. Not sure how you can claim Prestonfield to be the best in Junior football unless you have been at the other two this season (or last) to compare.

I didnt know the Daily Record clocked into the Pie and Bovril.I exclusively revealed that Glencairn would be hosting Hamilton Accies reserve and pro youth games next season(20 games).Low and behold today, the Record has run the same item! Mind you,the paper does pay lip service to the juniors normally... sad.gif

I know of one P&B poster who deliberately makes up stories (on another forum) to see how many the Record or Sun picks up!

Admittedly I've not seen Prestonfield, Newlandsfield or Meadow Park, but you'd be hard pushed to beat the surface at Blair Park, Hurlford - it was like a bowling green, it puts the majority of SFL clubs to shame.

Bloody hell - that's two very fat b*****ds in the six yard box!

I've been to Meadow Park once and Newlandsfield twice this season, both fine pitches, but again I think Prestonfield is a fantastic surface. Also 3 IM players earlier in the season on playing at Prestonfield remarked that the surface was the best they had played on. Anyways, its good that at long last some junior clubs are putting in an effort to get their pitches in such good condition. Long may it continue.

No idea who the Hurlford player is, but the Port player is their battering ram stiker Andy Monaghan.
Neither of them get close to big Neil Shearer at Largs though. smile.gif

Monaghan never really struck me as porky when they played Lok in the Junior Cup last season - maybe just a bad angle!

The fattest outfielder I've seen at Newlandsfield in ages was Alan Kerr of Troon - he must have been 16 stone. There have been a few tubbier keepers though! Ian Wilson when he first joined Lok, Kevin Budinauckas, Gary Matthews to name three.

Read in The Reformer that the Hamilton reserves/under-19's against Rangers & Celtic will be played in Hamilton, is this true?
