I have heard from a mate who works at the club that Snodgrass might be leaving, I hope he stays but do ya think the prospect of SPL football will make him leave?
wattie_rojas
I think Hartlepool are favourites to sign him.

Im pleased to inform you, he has verbally agreed a 3 year contract with Dundee. Now go and drown your sorrows, my friend.

Hartlepool have withdrew thier interest. It seems, the high compensation has scared them off. He's a Dundee player! cool.gif

Fux sake. I hadn't heard that one. Solid gold informant you've got. Tell me, any chance Flynn is going to sell up to these Italians?

You don't pay any compensation if it's across countries. Motherwell would never have got Chris Porter otherwise.

Nice try Gaylord.

if he goes to england, any english club who wants would need to pay a six figure fee for him, but if he stays in scotland, scottish teams dont have to pay anything near that

I thought you didn't pay money in cross border bosmans. Maybe it's just free for English players coming to Scotland, and not the other way around.

The paper plus the fact we have offered him a contract.
strathbrock
I hope he lives up to everyone's expectations of him. Snoddy blows hot and cold. I'd say the potential he showed at 16 has not been fully realised yet. He also needs to be handled by the right manager. I'm not 100% sure that Rae is that person. He did well under Proctor who could not be more different to Rae.

"There was controversy surrounding the player when, in June 2007, Scottish team Dundee United offered Porter a contract. This angered Oldham, as under FIFA directives they would be entitled to a transfer fee as long as the player does not move abroad, as the player is under 24 years old. However, a transfer to Scotland would be regarded as a "cross-border transfer" by FIFA and no fee would be payable. Dundee United chairman Eddie Thompson pointed out that his club has breached no rules in doing this, and were acting in a proper manner. On 27 June 2007 Dundee United announced they would not be signing Porter as he had turned down the move"

This was from his wikipedia page.

QUOTE
...Alex remains hopeful Innes will put pen to paper and, while the Snodgrass bid has become more drawn out than he would have liked, that deal is not dead yet.

“We’ve given Chris a bit of time to let him sort something out and there is still a chance he’ll be coming,” he added. “The other one is dragging on a bit, but it is still one that could happen.”

The likes of Hartlepool and Crewe have been credited with an interested in Snodgrass, but cross-border compensation rules mean they would have to stump up as much as a six-figure fee to get the 20-year-old and that could scare them, and other clubs down south, off. Dundee have agreed a far more modest price with Livingston and it is now a matter of Snodgrass deciding if he should head for Dens.

Believe me, for, Robert Snodgrass has agreed a 3 year deal with Dundee FC.

That confused me as well and I mentioned it the other day but it was ignored by the Dundee fans. I've not seen anything to suggest the rules have changed. There are examples of players going to England for nothing, like when Gary McDonald moved from Killie to Yeovil.

Players under the age of 23 have compensation attatched to them in the event of a free contract, it may have been different if we hadn't offered him a contract aswell

I know that but Chris Porter was 23 last summer and Oldham offered him a contract. Are you saying there are three rules? One for players under the aged of 23, one for players aged 23 and one for players aged 24 and over? Seems a bit strange but fair play if that is the case. Are there any examples of this rule being enforced for players aged 23, other than Porter?
andyk
£68 000 is a reasonable price for Snodgrass and his occasional spark of genius. Potential is there but very inconsistent.
ferryjambo
The SFA and EFA have different rules re compo

Player under 24 is compo in england, player under 23 in scotland

As porter moved cross border he was bound by the scottish rule and compo fee

Any player under 23 offered a contract extension/improvement is open to compo - unless contract was smaller or certain legal things not done

If livvy did their job right they will get compo, regardless of where he ends up

Is this a new thing? We signed Simon Mensing from Clyde (Link) when he was already 23-years-old but still had to pay Clyde around £15,000 in compensation.

I think he has it back to front. It used to be the case that for domestic transfers the rule was compensation was payable if they moved before the age of 24. For international transfers it was 23. There was some suggestion of the domestic rule coming into line with FIFA but I don't know if it ever happened.

So do you know what the craic is with the rules just now? Would Hartlepool United be due Livingston a fee for 20-year-old Robert Snodgrass, assuming Livi have done everything correctly at their end?

Radford, instead of making covert threats of banning me, why not just do it? I am doing nothing wrong, except communicating the INEVITABILITY that Dundee WILL win the league. Is that a serious crime?

I am no where near as controversial and antagonistic as a few other posters, who have caused much more of a stir than me.
