So, the unheralded and unfancied Cove Rangers are the champions of the SHFL. king.gif:

Not bad for a side who lost a heap of players to bigger-spending clubs last summer and had to rebuild with other teams cast-offs and untested players from the Tayside Juniors cool.gif..... bootyshake.gif

It's been a rollercoaster, and it's not over yet, with the Highland League Cup Final next weekend. Bring it on!

yes, congratulations, from king makers to kings in a season.i'm particularly happy as i tipped you as champions in a thread on this forum back at the arse end of 2007,unfortunately i was unable to find any local bookies willing to let me put my money where my mouth was as the season was underway and so riches have not followed.

In the minds of your average Pittodire (deliberate spelling) punter, maybe. In the eyes of the muppets like Charlie Allan, who persuade the Evening Express to give you 4 page spreads because you get a fecking draw with some piss-pot Ukrainian side.....

But not in terms of being the Aberdeen side with silverware on the table this season eh Uni? laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Has Jimmy's latest coat of Ronseal dried yet? Nice pic of yet another one of his "brilliant" signings waving bye-bye, too!

Agree with some of that. The Evening Express does tend to side with Aberdeen but most readers that buy it are mostly Aberdeen fans. Can remember when we played Aberdeen in the semi of the Aberdeenshire shield a few years back 2000 i think it they put out a strong team and we bet them 2-1 the EE the next day just went on about how bad Aberdeen were and never gave Deveronvale any credit for beating them 2-1. Must also say Cove Rangers get more Coverage than anyother highland league team in that paper so i can't see why your having a pop at Charlie Allan. I've seen the EE giving a Fort v Cove a big write up when the likes of Vale have played a bigger match to the likes of Buckie/Huntly/Broch.

A team from Aberdeen in the Highland League. A disgrace.

How do you define the Highlands? Traditionally the "Highland Line" ran from Dumbarton to Stonehaven with anything north of that being termed 'Highland'. Cove Rangers are located within that area.

Another variation on that states that the Highland line then continues from Stonehaven to Nairn with anything north-east of that being the 'Northeast Lowlands' - so that would exclude most SHFL clubs, not just Cove Rangers. This variation also has another line in the far north that excludes Caithness and hence Wick Academy.

Or do you go for the post-1975 local government version that is "Highland Region/Council" that excludes the Grampian, Argyll and Perthshire highlands? and therefore only includes a handful of SHFL teams.

Or do you go for the European Parliament version that includes Moray etc.?

There are so many definitions of what is the Highlands.

The Highlands is the Highland Council regional area. HC

Thank you for your clarification. At one sweep of a politician's pen in 1975 large sections of what was the Highlands were excluded from the new definition? ohmy.gif

Someone should tell the EU as they have the likes of Moray and most of Argyll in their "Highlands & Islands" constituency!!!!!!!!!!

And as for that "Highland 2007" nonsense - they included Moray and Argyll too, the fools. They even launched Highland 2007 in Elgin and that's not even in the Highland Council area!

Why didn't they just check with Juninho on here first and save themselves the utter embarrassment??? mad.gif

I thought the launch of Highland 2007 was the stormy night they had acrobats parading along Inverness high st. and fireworks at the castle and pish. huh.gif (Not to be confused with their attempt to re-enact KLF's money up in smoke piece on the Kessock Bridge)

Aye, I think that was opening event, but the launch/announcement of the Highland 2007 project was in Elgin Town Hall.
