What are each teams' record wins/defeats? Should be a new record set somewhere.
Lossie Loon
I think Lossie's record win was about 17-0 against Aberdeen University in the Qualifying Cup. In the last 15 years in the league we've had a 10-0 (or thereabouts, it was definitely double figures) against Nairn County and an 8-0 against Peterhead.

Today was not the first time we've put double figures past Fort W

Today was not the first time Fort W have conceded double figures this season

They are a disgrace to the league

(I'll await an ear bashing from the Lossie boys who love Fort W as they are one of the few teams worse than them)

Fort are not a disgrace to the league.

They are a side who try very, very hard to bring high-level football to the West Highlands, with all the problems that entails (shinty taking best players, inclement climate, travelling distances, and so on.)

Yes, they get horsings like today. But they "keep on keeping on" for now, and should be applauded for that.

We all know Locos want to get up into the SFL as soon as possible, so I look forward to the day when you're on here mumbling about your Wednesday night game at Stranraer being put off when the team bus is on the Kingston Bridge and you start asking for them to be kicked out of the SFL as well.

No wonder we can't get a 16th team into the SHFL...... there's probably no-one who fulfils all Locos criteria. laugh.gif

How many fans do Fort William get for their home games, just out of interest?

Edit: And do they have a travelling support, at that?

Been to Fort William twice. Both times just under 100 the first time and the second time was about 50 of a home crowd.

Never seen them take an away support to our ground just committee.

Teams who lose are a disgrace to the league? Thats a bit much from a Locos fan considering how 2008 has gone for them. laugh.gif

maybe they are a disgrace to the league,i dont know,i say fair play to a team that constantly struggles yet carries on.
I had the pleasure of seeing Trains completely bottle the championship last season in front of over a thousand, completely silent utterly expectant glory hunting fans and also enjoyed seeing IL doing nothing in the league this season against, again, all expectations. You should be grateful to the Fort for giving you something to smile about this season

im not a FW supporter but ill often go to an away match and cheer them on as they fulfil the twin roles of being a Highland team and(always)the underdogs.Havent caught a FW home game since the first match of 06/07 when they lost to wick 4-2.Curiously the figure in the paper was 150 for that,i personally only counted 30-40,maybe everyone else was hiding. Will have the pleasure of a return to see them play 'Vale on the 17th though,a real bonus as im working next weekend and thought that yesterday was my last chance for live footy before the dreaded close season

Not as good as the seventeen we put past them when we were in the HFL. wink.gif

Poor Fort, certainly not a disgrace to the league. To quote that noted football pundit Yazz, the only way is up.

Fort William's a horrible shithole of a town. Can't we just chuck it out of the Highlands and keep them in the league like the majority of the rest.
KilveanLegend
I think Fort William should be kept in the league but this only shows the need for a pyramid system in Scotland so the likes of this one way matches don't happen.
Atlas
I saw Locos play Fort William a few season back in a cold snowy day at Harlaw Park.

Locos won 13-1 that day, the best goal of the game was Fort Williams goal, a great passing move, finsihed with a great strike.

Are there ever any odds compiled for FW matches? For example what were the odds of FW beating Locos?

there usually are at local ladbrokes but theyre not usually even remotely worth a punt, not usually better than 7 or 8/1

Me and my Dad keep an eye out for them in the Sunday papers as they're absolutly dreadful.

Mon the Fort.

I'm a forres fan, and we've done well to be average this year, but the guy up a bit is right, fort william ARE a disgrace to the league. The likes of them just give the rest of scotland an opportunity to write off the HL as 'just a shitty teuchter league'. Which it is, but i just wish it wasn't so obvious........

Only a person from the Highlands could refer to Fort William as a horrible shithole of a town. The scenery that surrounds the town is pretty impressive, especially on a sunny day. The town is a bit touristy, but not that bad for the highlands.

As Highland towns go Fort William seems quite sizeable. Why can't they assemble a decent side. Do they all play shinty? Do the shinty players not play football too?

They seem to get horsed on a regular basis.

A lot of people i know badmouth Fort William (the town) but i've only ever been through there once briefly on the way to the Connect Festival last year. Didn't seem too shabby.

It's a bit of a mystery why the team are so staggeringly bad. A mixture of a few things i guess; shinty town, lack of financial support, being so far away from other HL clubs. Their side that i saw in Inverness last season were extremely young looking. They've never had any history of success in the HL, poor b*****ds.

I find that my perception of a place depends very much on the weather I encounter. I can't be alone in that respect. When I first visited Fort William, I too thought it was a shitehole, the land that time forgot, etc.

When I went back a few years later, it was glorious sunshine and I didn't have a bad word to say about the place.

As for the team, they've been in the league for a few years now, haven't these youngsters got older? I recall getting horsed regularly at u-18 level with Kirkcaldy YM (the worst was when we drew 0-0 at half/time and then lost 8-0 in the second half and had 2 men sent off....there was regularly a lot of drinking the night before), but by the time we got to u-21 level we had played together for two years and we managed to come a respectable 3rd in the league.

Well, maybe in 3 or 4 years time they might double their points tally for the season to 6?

Albeit the Fort is not quite Oban, but in terms of being a shithole...kettle, black, pot! Dingwall indeed...

Shinty takes priority for those who are local and stay local. Likes of Donald Park and Duncan Shearer are from the Fort, but obviously had to move on to bigger things in order to advance in their respective sport. Therefore the shinty team takes priority...however as an aside, they had a pretty rotten shinty team as well until the early 90's when they went around the surrounding villages and took all the better players. Leading to their first Camanachd Cup win in 91 I think. Shinty now being a summer sport may help their cause, but with the nature of geography and being the only West Highland team it does not paint a pretty picture. Oban Saints, their closest neighbours, play in the amateur leagues with Glasgow, Paisley and Greenock teams. Highlighting the draw of the Highland League to another West Highland team...

In the Fort, like Oban, Inveraray, Ballachulish, Tighnabruich, Caol, Spean Bridge, Kingussie, Newtonmore and so on, football may be the number one sport in terms of watching and supporting, but Shinty, and rightfully so, is the number one in terms of participation at a senior level.

Whats the point in Dundee United? You'll never win the SPL.

surely you of all people should see the point of the continued existence of a team that plays in orange and has f**k all chance of ever winning anything.its the taking part that counts you know.....
