In a number of sources including the old club website Benburb's year of formation is given as 1900, but they are listed as runners-up in the Scottish Junior Cup 1890.

Does anyone know if they went to the wall and reformed in 1900 or was the earlier result a different, unconnected Benburb?

There were 3 clubs of the name Benburb from Glasgow in that period, according to Brian McColl's historical website.

Benburb (1) 1886-1895 who then merged with Crown Athletic to form Oatlands.
Benburb (2) 1895-1897.
Benburb (3) 1900 to present.

The original Benburb merged with Crown Athletic to form Oatlands in the newly-formed GJL. Some old Benburb players didn't like this and reformed as the the second Benburb club. This so enraged the new Oatlands club that they decided to rename themselves under the old Crown Athletic name. This club subsequently disbanded at the end of the season, with Benburb following suit a year later. The present Benburb were formed in 1900.
