Seems really obvious, but referees can't see it.

I mentioned this on the other thread - he seems to dive whenever anyone goes near him, similar to the truely awful, Broadfoot.
Gallacticos
He does look for a lot of fouls. None of the ones he dived for were that crucial today, but I do agree, I wish he's cut that part of his game out.

That said, I thought it was wonderfully intelligent forward play to get in front of Broadfoot as the ball was falling and to just stop, in the full knowledge he was about to get barged over in the box. Extreme naivety by Broadfoot.
Deeboy
because he plays for Celtic
DAFC
He got away with it at Motherwell too.....

Still a fucking good player. Not really watched much of Celtic- but he was the best player on the pitch today. Outstanding. If defenders are stupid enough to push you- your going to go down in a tight situation even if you don't need to. That's not diving.

The goals were his 28th and 29th of the season, but don't let that fool you. It's been ages since he put in a performance of that quality, he's been pants lately. Still, great to see him back on top form.

He reminds me of someone like Andy Payton or Tommy Coyne ie. a decent enough SPL player and knows the way to goal but not really Celtic class if we're honest with ourselves. He also seems like a nice enough wee fellow and apparently has a degree of affection for the club which always helps.

Having said that I can't imagine many Tims crying themselves to sleep when the time comes for him to take his modest abilities elsewhere.

I think you are being a little unfair to him - he is the top goalscorer in the SPL by 8 goals (I think). Goalscorers are hard to come by and it would be foolish to let him leave without being substantially compensated.

It looked like it, the way he celebrated when he won Rangers the league a few years back.

Couldn't agree more - also thought the fact he knew the foul was at least a yard outside the box but had the strength to stay on his feet until he went into the box and developed the strength of a baby seahorse. Broadfoot is god awful though.

No as Faye was covering

How in the world could anyone have classed that foul as outside the box?

If McDonald is initially tripped outside the box, rides the challenge and then gets barged over in the box by the same player, why would the referee pull it back for the initial trip when a clear goalscoring opportunity had been denied by a stupid barge in the box right after it?

And anyway, let's be honest, with Nakamura in the team an edge of the box free kick in that area is as good as a penalty anyway.

Absolute crap. The initial contact was outside the box, free kick, not a penalty. Very simple, and if things had been the other way around Celtic would be in uproar about the 'obvious bias shown towards Rangers by referees and the SFA'.

Initial contact was outside the box, but advantage gets played as McDonald still has a goalscoring opportunity up until the point that Broadfoot does his impersonation of a lioness bringing down a gazelle in the box.

It's also worth pointing out that when the initial foul occured, Amdy Faye was not covering, so you can either have a Nakamura free-kick to face and 10-men, or a penalty and 11-men smile.gif

I don't think that is a defence to be honest. McDonald has dived throughout his career in Scotland. In fact he's always been pretty poor against St.Mirren and would regularly be found on his arse with the referee waving play on.

The dive he made at the touch line late on in the game he should have been carded for, it was just persistent.

I agree, both in that he should cut out the blatant diving and that it was extremely naive of Broadfoot. Surprising as he never did that in a St.Mirren shirt.

I'd need to see it again to comment on whether Faye was covering or not, but as for advantage being played the referee should have brought it back to where the initial foul occurred when he decided there was no advantage.

IT WAS NOT A PENALTY.

It was Dave. To be honest, if it was the other way, you would have been shouting for it.

Broadfoot was totally sold by McDonald who nipped infront of him, stopped then let the defenders weight and momentum barge him over in the box. "Clever" play by McDonald, "Stupid" play by Broadfoot.

If it had been the other way, I'd have been admitting that we had been incredibly fortunate to get a penalty when the initial foul was a yard outside the box. And on my arse in shock at getting a dodgy penalty at Parkhead of course wink.gif

The only thing that I'll concede is that it looked like a penalty at the first time of viewing, and it wasn't until I saw the replay that I saw where the initial contact occurred, therefore I can see why the referee gave it.

The offside on the other hand I saw first time, and I was 4 or 5 miles away at the time, unlike a certain linesman who was no more than 40 or 50 yards away... rolleyes.gif

Mcdonald has the first touch of a brick wall, decent finisher, but a below average footballer with a massive arse.

That is irrelevant. If McDonald was denied an obvious goalscoring opportunity then the hun should have walked. Without seeing a replay, it appeared very much as if that was the case.

I thought that at first as well, but on replay I dont think it was a clear goalscoring opportunity. The ball wasn't under control and Faye was coming across.

I think a booking was the right decision.

Mind you, you could argue that not sending off Comedy Kirk actually did Celtic a favour.

I'm not a closet hun, infact I have an Irish name and prefer Celtic.
I just hate to see cheats prosper, McDonald is a fantastic player but is a cheat.

Considering the nature of the "tackle" I wouldn't say that he should have walked, although I understand the suggestion he should.

That's what it was like. Sarabi's front paws were on either side of McDonald's back.

I was waiting for the killing neck bite and David Attenborough's spiel about life on the veldt

Yes, he did. With a smile on his face.

Maybe they had a bit of banter going on over him not scoring against Rangers? McManus hugged him right away again afterwards.

Strange how he always manages to put two feet together and look at the ref.
